This lovely cloud you see faded away completely as the night ended and dawn approached :( This was the story of our clear skies trip to the USA but nonetheless I hope we still came back with some good shots :)

Brought the kitchen sink (every piece of camera equipment I have) out to Big Sable the other night and stayed til dark. Had a very enjoyable starlit walk back to the trail head and listened to some favorite music along the way. Felt like Pooh. I passed many places that I would of liked to have shot but slinging my pack off, and setting everything up again and again can get old. This is where I finally caved.

Over the past couple of days, Nick and I set off to attempt summiting Mt. Rainier again. We were unsuccessful this time due to high winds that picked up in the night. We made it over 11,000ft up, but the wind was strong enough that we were knocked to our knees more than once. Thank goodness for ice axes that kept us on the mountain and not sliding down a glacier into a crevasse! I guess we made a good call, we were the first out of camp but all the other teams turned back later too.

It was still an amazing night, it was thrilling and challenging and stunning. I think too often people think that the purpose of climbing is to reach the summit. It's always a wonderful experience when you do, but it's the journey that teaches and challenges you. We were happy to just get out there and experience the mountains.

The night sky was beyond incredible up there! It was near impossible to get a well focused shot due to the wind. Even if I was crazy enough to carry a tripod with me on that climb I doubt it would have helped last night. This is looking east, the peak is Little Tahoma with the city lights of Yakima to the right.
