"Portone" is a steel sculpture by renowned artist Amanda Phingbodhipakkiya, comprised of nine 10x10-foot steel frames arranged in a mesmerizing Jacob’s ladder formation. Of the work Phingbodhipakkiya says;
“‘Portone’ meaning ‘doorway’ in Italian, is a meditation on restoration and transformation, and the hidden power that lies within us all.
Scotland has dozens of these ancient Stargates cluttering up the countryside. I visit this Stargate in the Trossachs regularly but have never once been abducted. Aliens are so unreliable these days ;-)
Seeing so many great bookends MOCs popping up online lately inspired me to try my hand at one.
Stargate remains one of my all time favorite Sci-Fi movies… and I just thought that the subject would be a perfect fit for this.
Each vignette is on a base of 18*18 and can either be connected to the other to form a larger diorama or used as bookends - or rather “dvd ends” as shown in this extra picture.
I was worried about finding a way to come-up with a convincing vortex effect.. it turned out that a simple printed sheet of paper is perfect!

2am start this morning, drive to Broadway Tower to photograph the Milkyway and specifically the Galatic Core.
The GC according to my planning would be at its highest above the S/E horizon at around 03:30 so I waited, and waited and waited some more come 03:40 it was still cloudy, with heavy air pollution on the SE horizon. So whats a Photographer to do?
I know, I'll drive all the way to Worcester and re-shoot one of my first images with a camera, and that's what I did.
Arriving at Diglis around 04:45 I shot a little of the waterways quickly checking my watch dawn was only a few minutes away, so I dashed to Diglis footbridge to capture the last of the starlight and the beginnings of morning.
Some of you will remember my first image of this location, taken at the very start of my photography adventures around Worcester you can check it out here...

La ciudad guarda muchos rincones mágicos o simplemente que nos transmiten sensaciones fuera de lo común, solo hay que salir a buscarlos y poner la imaginación a trabajar.
It looks like a gateway into another universe, but it's just the north exit of the metro station in Rotterdam
I thought the Milky Way over the most beautiful harbor entrance on Lake Constance should be a pretty great motif. Fittingly, the Milky Way is now in the right place in the second half of the night in spring, when the spotlights on the lighthouse and lion statue are already switched off. Unfortunately, the street lamps on the lake promenade burn all night and this light is extremely bright, which made taking the scene much more difficult than I thought. Here is the result - a picture I don't know what to make of it...
Taken in Adachi-ku, Tokyo.
This is the Goshiki Zakura Big Bridge (五色桜大橋), which spans the Arakawa River in the north-east of the city.
Having recently seen images online it was a place I definitely wanted to go. There is another impressive view from the other side catching the slip lanes; will try that next time. Thanks for looking.

There was a long time I wanted to build that and as I started to watch the TV show, one more time, I though it was the good moment.
