I was in the Alps yesterday and tested my mini mount. 14 minutes come around. It's amazing what makes light pollution! -

Spring is popping up all around our house. I'm so glad daylight savings is finally here, I was getting tired of it being dark by the time I got home from work!

Today is American Independence Day, aka July 4th, 4th of July. I will not be celebrating it in a traditional way with parades, picnics, or family get-togethers, but I did wake up this morning thinking of my country & what it means to me. I searched my home for a symbolic star & was interested to find only one--the simple star in the wooden nativity scene that I display year-round. For me, my love of country & of God are intertwined & I am most thankful for both. Being a librarian, I couldn't resist doing a little research on star symbolism. Not surprisingly, I found a plethora of information. What caught my imagination was a quote from the nineteenth century minister, Henry Ward Beecher (brother of Harriet Beecher Stow, who wrote "Uncle Tom's Cabin"). He said, of the American flag,
"A thoughtful mind when it sees a nation's flag, sees not the flag, but the nation itself. And whatever may be its symbols, its insignia, he reads chiefly in the flag, the government, the principles, the truths, the history that belongs to the nation that sets it forth. The American flag has been a symbol of Liberty and men rejoiced in it.
The stars upon it were like the bright morning stars of God, and the stripes upon it were beams of morning light. As at early dawn the stars shine forth even while it grows light, and then as the sun advances that light breaks into banks and streaming lines of color, the glowing red and intense white striving together, and ribbing the horizon with bars effulgent, so, on the American flag, stars and beams of many-colored light shine out together ...."
May we all celebrate the freedoms & the gifts in our every-day lives. May we nurture them in our various ways, day by day.

Oh dear, I made life hard on myself today by using the gold side of the reflector instead of silver. Rookie mistake!! So I did my best to tone it down by adding some bluish textures but not really convinced that it helped. Also bummed with the sun flare, tough editing morning. Hope your day is going well.
Sometimes to get the shot that you want, you have to have patience, and this may mean waiting months (or more) to get exactly what you want.
I came across this wonderful old abandoned grain elevator earlier this summer on my travels to another (potential) location and knew that I'd have to come back later to photograph it when the stars would be in alignment with my vision.
Shot with a Fuji X-H1 and Samyang 12mm f/2.0; (5) 15 second shots + (2) dark frames @ f/2.0, ISO 3200, 3800K WB. A single LED panel was used for LLL. Stacked in Sequator with final edits in Photoshop using a few Topaz plugins.

Also known as the Sea Star, it is one of the most intriguing creatures found in the sea. An example of pentaradial symmetry.
Had to take it out of water to take this macro shot!

I am so grateful to whoever owned our property years ago. They had the foresight to plant many perennials. Springtime is a continual flower show. Now the Star of Bethlehem is making its appearance, along with the roses. I find them tucked in among the irises and violets.

"Look sir, droids"
Yep, thats pretty much it. Here we have a BB unit, two T7 units and an FX series medical droid.
In terms of complexity, the medical droid was the hardest, mainly because getting the antennae/arms to stay in required the precision of, well, a surgeon. The entire thing is built around a five/six (I call them five but I think its six) stud long bar.
Now for all you looking at the T7's and thinking "Dayum that fine, I gotta build me one of them", you're in luck, as I made a how to video god knows how long ago.
And there's even one for the BB unit!
Looks like Christmas came early you lucky devils!
It was a beautiful landscape, but Star knew how it could be improved. She even crawls forward a bit to get in the optimal place!

Been wanting to do a pic for Star-Lord (who?) for a while since I got the Milano several months ago and finally sat down and took the pic and edited it. One of the things that was pretty prevalent in Guardians (and a lot of movies now a days) is dramatic lends flare, so to keep with the style of the film I added one for good mesure. :)
Like the last picture I did I'll be uploading the original photo to my Twitter feed sometime today. :)

Taken from Oxfordshire, UK with a Canon 1100D with 18-55mm lens + unbranded wide angled lens attachment. I fancied a change from circumpolar star trails so I pointed the camera towards the south east instead. When I started, Orion was in the V-shaped gap between the tree branches.
