On the way home from the Springfield train show a few weekends ago, I checked ATCS as I neared the Illinois 10 exit. Lo and behold, a green signal for a southbound at Lodge, with a train somewhere near Galesville. Nice! A quick turnaround brought me over to the Bloomington District to find NS2717 and a crusty thoroughbred Dash 9 (9684, perhaps?) building air at Galesville. Just as I turned around to head down to Mills, they actually started moving, making it a race I hadn't even been planning on.
It was a bit of a mad sprint down to CP Mills, one blocked by a dog who really liked circling my car as I tried to get away from Galesville, but I made it in time all the same. By the time I reached the tiny single-track bridge just south of Mills, it became debate time - do I cross it and play that game? My debate was cut short when the dim headlight of the SD70M-2 rounded the bend just to the north. No more playing the Stand By Me game, just a little telesmashing. The dim headlight and lack of ditchlights was interesting, but she was certainly moving over 30 at least. Nice late afternoon catch to cap off a nice day out.
Still never figured out what train symbol this was. Short all-grain hopper train, all quiet on the radio. Not D36, so who knows?

Yesterdays labour day in Berlin was a lot less tense than in the past years. The whole day was quite relaxed, without big conflicts or riots to talk about. Everybody seemed to be in a mood to party, and through the professional work of the german policeforce, the traditional revolutionary labour day demonstration of the left wing activists went peaceful with a few exceptions.
The most interesting may have been the people who were wearing costumes, masks and were fun to see. This guy is a good example =)

Submission by the less dominant bird saves injury I guess, the coarse hair to the left is a roadkill wild boar lunch!
Watching their behaviour over several days, it is fascinating to see the bird that is eating protect its food by covering it over using its outspread wings, almost trying to hide it and to say "go away....it's mine"!!

There's always money in the Banana Stand!
Since I posted my original Banana Stand in 2015, I've received many requests for instructions, sets, stickers, etc. Since then I've been able to refine the design and, more importantly, have some professionally printed and die-cut stickers made up for the MOC. I heard the calls for making this available loud and clear. I wanted this to be a special kit; my first publicly available kit that incorporated full color PDF instructions, custom figures, high quality stickers, all in a fun build and a nice package!

Meine letzte Aufnahme der wenige Tage später abgestellten 218 493 gelingt am 13. Januar 2015 bei der Ausfahrt aus dem Bahnhof Göppingen.
Der motivliche Blick auf den von je her unfotogenen Bahnhof von der Jebenhäuser-Brücke war wegen der Oberleitungsmasten schon immer schwer. Dennoch haben solch dokumentarische Aufnahmen auch ihren Reiz. Kaum wo ist der Wandel über die Jahre größer als an den Bahnhöfen und ihrem Umfeld. Zwar wurden in Göppingen die provisorischen Bahnsteigserhöhungen zum Halt von ICE (Grund Sperrung der Neubaustrecke Stuttgart-Mannheim anno 2020) wieder abgebaut und die alten tiefen Bahnsteige sehen wieder aus wie die Jahrzehnte davor. Ein Blick auf den städtebaulich auf den neuesten Stand gebrachten Bahnhofsvorplatz ist so aber nicht mehr möglich. Die Platanen sind gefallen und auf dem Parkplatz (wo einst die Güterabfertigung stand) macht sich nun ein moderner Bürokomplex breit.

Today we all face situations we never planned on for sure. Tragedies come our way that may or may not involve us directly. We can’t ignore the depth of pain we feel for others because it’s part of the human experience. We Stand Tall in the face of challenges that we didn’t know would exist a few short weeks ago. We do this instinctively I believe because we need to know that tough times, pain and sorrow are temporary. We’re not meant to live our lives confined to our homes. Give Thanks to those people who tough it out for you and me in the trenches daily. We know who they are. Stand Tall for them too as well as yourself. Stand Tall because humankind wants to enjoy a contented life with family, friends and that new face you’ll see today. Say “hello” to a stranger, make someone laugh because you’ll move them to do the same. Stand Tall because it’s who you are, proud, happy, strong and yes connected. Look at all you come in contact with in your daily life. You effect people. Stand Tall and others will feel your presence. Lastly Stand Tall because it’s who you are.
