In addition to using Polaroid 600 film cartridge as photo frame or photo storage, I found another great use of empty cartridges - an iPhone stand!
Just break the outer plastic case and pull out the metal frame inside, make a few bends and there you go, a stand good for viewing movies on your iPhone. The metal frame has a strong elasticity so after you bend it into the shape you need, it can grab your iPhone tightly holding it in place.
Now most of us don't just sit in front of a table to view movies on iPhone right? We lye in bed spending the last drops of energy for entertainment :) To make it work in such situation, simply bring a big coffee table book, adjust the base of the metal frame into an "A" shape, insert the legs into the pages like bookmarks (tape it if you like) and you get a perfect bed time movie stand adjusted to the angle you feel comfortable! No more numb wrist and forearms. Let me know if it works for you :)

At the "Landsgemeinde", the traditional way of voting in Appenzell, Switzerland
This is a tough shot to explain if you don't know what it's about ... i'll try anyway:
Some foolish patriots of Switzerland often claim Switzerland is the oldest democracy in the world. Historic reality is that Switzerland, more or less as it exists nowadays was founded with its constitution in the year 1848 - after a short civil war and some more riots later on.
Before it more or less was a community of more or less independent cantons. The traditional way of making political decisions was to all get together (well, not really all, the Swiss women were excluded from voting until late in the 20st century, at one place - the place i come from - until 1990 ...) at one place once in the year and vote there by raising one's hand. Of course, one main principle of democracy to vote anonymous wasn't followed. And it sometimes does take courage to get up, stand up, stand up for your right when you know your work's boss is standing right next to you, your mates can watch you, the whole bloody town is with you, around you, in front of you, in the back of you ...
Now, in the 21st century, this tradition is still intact in 2 cantons from the 26 of Switzerland. At the canton I'm from, Appenzell Innerrhoden, this traditional vote, the "Landsgemeinde", is held in spring and one can now either vote in advance by letter or one can go there on that one weekend vote by raising one's hand (as seen here). Then some persons count the hands, take the letters in account and decide, what's the verdict. Most of the time it's not a close call anyways, if it is, one actually has to leave the place where the vote is being held and leave at certain points (like the "yes" and "no" door) so one can take a exact count.
It really is a special way to vote, a very traditional "happening" with lots of spectators, journalists and lots of beer before and after the vote (hey, democracy is dehydrating!). It's somehow really efficient (only really possible since Appenzell Innerrhoden only has roughly 15000 inhabitants), thrilling, as the candidates get on stage and present themselves, people, normal, ordinary people get on the microphone to have their say.
Yeah ... that's Switzerland. Class dismissed :-)

I've had an iPad for a while. I don't have a TV, so it basically fills that role for me. I quite like watching movies and TV shows on it but holding it in your lap doesn't always make for the most comfortable viewing.
I've been eyeing stands, but they seem expensive to me. About the cheapest one is $25 for a piece of injection molded plastic. I initially wanted a case which would act as a stand as well, but I've transported this thing enough in my bike panniers to believe that cases really aren't necessary. That Gorilla Glass is pretty sturdy. Not a scratch.
Naturally I turned to one of modern society's most important developments to solve the problem: Lego.
The stand holds the iPad well. It could be shallower in depth if you didn't care about portrait mode which, for watching video, you probably don't. I wanted it to work in both modes so I extended it a bit.
It actually does a pretty good job of holding the iPad in the slightly angled typing position popular with case makers.
The antenna does nothing to help WiFi reception, though my home is small enough that I'm not sure I could tell anyway! My desk is literally in between my AirPort Extreme and my AirPort Express.
I added thd old-school spaceman for a bit of decoration. I debated going with Boba Fett, but it seemed a little predictable.
I'm short one black piece so I had to substitute a grey. I'll hopefully revise this and may make some aesthetic changes to help it fit in a bit more.
