Community leaders joined together to launch a national initiative promoting community cohesion and unity.
‘We Stand Together’ encourages people to come together as one and celebrate their differences in order to build a safer and stronger United Kingdom.
The initiative has been launched following recent global events which have caused concern within communities across Greater Manchester.
Chief Constable Sir Peter Fahy said: “Greater Manchester has a long and proud tradition of celebrating differences and sets a positive example to the rest of the world, which we should be immensely proud of.
“Recent attacks in Paris and Denmark have inevitably caused tension and fear within our communities and it is more important than ever that we come together as one and send a strong unified message that any attempt to create disharmony or fear is futile.
“We all have a responsibility to encourage community cohesion and I am calling on people to stand together against hatred and intolerance and show their support for each other during this difficult time”.
Councillor Bernard Priest, Manchester City Council's deputy leader, said: "Mancunians are rightly proud to live in a diverse and thriving city where people respect and tolerate each other, but there is no escaping the fact that incidents in other parts of the world can have an impact on community tensions here.
"Now, it is more important than ever for our communities to show the world that we are continuing to stand together, despite the troubling times we are living through, and demonstrate that hatred and intolerance have no place in our city."
Police and Crime Commissioner Tony Lloyd said: “Here in Greater Manchester, as across the land, we have strong, cohesive communities where we celebrate our diversity. But we should never take for granted the fact we live in a safe, tolerant part of the world as there are always those who would seek to drive us apart. By standing together we send out a clear and strong message that we celebrate and cherish our inclusive society, as well as recognising that we have a shared responsibility to work to safeguard it.”
Community leaders will be urging members of the public to use social media to spread the message of standing together using the hashtag #WeStandTogether

1. Paper roll, stiff card, white glue, glue gun, white paper. This can make two stands. You can also just use stiff card and make slits and slide them on to each other to make an X. Paper roll should preferably be from a paper towel roll. You can always cut the length.
Please do not use coloured paper where the doll's legs are touching!
2. Cut a rectangle from stiff board, about 2" by 2 3/4". Cut paper roll in half. To adjust size, base should be just a little wider than doll's shoulders.
3. Cut half roll in half again.
4. Stick white paper on both sides, trimming each as you stick.

A humpback whale approximately 20 yards off our boat holds a tail stand for over 15 seconds, awesome!

Near the fruit markets in Chinatown is this little sugar cane juice stand. Took a quick photo of the girl running it.
Buses Excetera VGX (S30 ETC, ex-W317 VGX) stands at the bus layby in Guildford train station's forecourt, between journeys on the 489.
Presumably due to their long layovers, the 489s cannot use the bus station to lay over and have to cross the gyratory system and stand here instead.
The bus stop has now been marked up as a bus stand for this purpose.
During the early mornings, inbound 24s and 53s use this stop, but during the day, it hadn't seen buses regularly since the Guildford Shuttle was withdrawn.

I noticed this stand of a Chinese software company at LinuxTag 2006 in Wiesbaden, Germany.
The otherwise empty and barren stand featured a reasonably attractive and politely smiling Asian girl standing by behind a table with two business card displays and a box of readily available soft paper tissues.
And this at a trade fair visited by lots of computer nerds whose notion of women is dominated by the pictures they encounter on the internet.
You do the math.
Anyone whose result starts with "bu-" wins a virtual spanking for having a dirty mind.
No, not what you are all thinking now, I am fairly sure that this stand served a family-friendly purpose. But I could really not find out what this stand was there for to offer or advertise.
Oh, and yes, I asked the attendant her permission to take her picture for putting it up on the internet "because of the interesting and very curious stand." She consented.

This area is rich in 19th century mining history. Travel graveled roads to Atlantic City, South Pass City State Historic Site, the ghost town of Miner's Delight, or ride along two-track roads through stands of pine and aspen.
The many possible rides in the area include the 11-mile Ft. Stambaugh Loop Road (BLM 2324), including Miner's Delight, and all day rides taking in Atlantic City and South Pass City State Historic Site. You can view various wildlife along the way, including pronghorn, deer, elk, moose and raptors.
HISTORY
During the 1800s, Wyoming became the focus for American expansion into the trans-Mississippi west. Robert Stuart’s discovery of South Pass in October 1812 gave hope that a practical overland route to the Pacific (the route Lewis and Clark searched for but failed to find) did exist.
By 1824, South Pass was in annual use by mountain men and trappers engaged in the Rocky Mountain Fur Trade. Soon trappers discovered connections that linked South Pass with the Snake and Columbia rivers and with the Hudson’s Bay Company holdings of the Pacific Northwest.
Some 150,000 pioneers went west between the years of 1849 and 1852. By the mid-1850s, stage coaches and freight wagons were regular users of the California, Mormon Pioneer and Oregon trails, rolling both east and west through South Pass. For 19 months in 1860-61, the riders of the Pony Express transcontinental mail service thundered through the pass on an incredible schedule covering 2,000 miles from St. Joseph, Missouri, to San Francisco, California, in 10 days or less.
Historians estimate that some 500,000 pioneers “went westering” along the South Pass trail system before the great overland wagon train migrations slowed down with the completion of the transcontinental railroad in 1869. About 80,000 were headed for the Willamette Valley in Oregon. Some 70,000 Mormons had the Great Salt Lake region as their destination. Most of the remaining 350,000 were bound for California with just a few headed for intermediate destinations. Of those that started the journey, one in 10 would not complete it. Thousands would die along the way, mostly from accidents, cholera and other diseases. Some would simply get to their destination and turn back.

From Lander, go south about 28 miles on State Highway 28 to the Atlantic City turnoff. Travel the gravel road for about 1/2 mile from the pavement. You can park here and start following the signs to Atlantic City/South Pass City or Miner's Delight along the Ft. Stambaugh Loop Road. Several routes are available along county and BLM roads. Please be aware of vehicle traffic when riding in this area as well as private property. Atlantic City and Big Atlantic Gulch BLM campgrounds (water available) make good base camps.

As we fight on, the last of us try to hold back the base as long as we can. But Russians keep hitting us over and over again. Only me, Ramierez, and Stiginson remain, holding off as many as we can. But it's over now. We have to get to the chopper or else we die. It's as simple as that.

The Exeter War Memorial. This quite magnificent war memorial stands in Northernhay Gardens opposite the ancient ruin of Rougemont Castle. Atop a pedestal of Devon granite stands a bronze figure representing "Peace" and beneath her a slain dragon. A further four bronze figures sit below "Peace". One features a soldier wearing shrapnel helmet, overcoat and gas mask with rifle slung over his soldier and another a V.A.D. Nurse in uniform. The figure facing the City Wall is a sailor sitting astride the prow of a ship and the remaining figure, as shown here, is of a Prisoner of War (Lady Owen, the wife of Sir James Owen the then Mayor of Exeter had led a team of Exeter men and women in organising relief work for soldiers held prisoner in Germany). John Angel, the sculptor of the Exeter memorial exhibited the figure of "Peace" at The Royal Academy in 1922. The Exeter War Memorial was completed in 1923.
It is perhaps a pity for British sculpture that John Angel was to emigrate to the United States of America early in his career but we can at least appreciate his work from the war memorials at Exeter and at Bridgewater.
He was born in Newton Abbot in Devon in 1881 and in 1901 he was apprenticed to a wood carver before attending Exeter’s School of Art. From there he went to the Lambeth School of Art and then the Royal Academy School where he studied under George Frampton. Angel showed great promise and in 1919 and before he was 30 years old he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of British Sculptors.
Angel made his home in London and married an American, Elizabeth Day Seymour. They had two children and the Angel family finally emigrated in 1928.
He died on the 16th October 1960 in Connecticut and was then regarded as one of America’s foremost sculptors. His work for the Cathedral of St John the Divine in New York and his statue of Francis Vigo for the George Rogers Clark Memorial Park in Vincennes , Indiana, overlooking the Wabash River, are just two of many works in America.
