The beginning of our climb up the Haiku stairs (A.K.A. "The Stairway To Heaven"). A view of the trail and the towering H3 that rises above the forest canopy. Not sure about the actual height, but I'd say it is over 75 feet high if not more.

.....There's a feeling I get when I look to the west

And my spirit is crying for leaving

In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees

And the voices of those who stand looking....

And she's buying a stairway to heaven.

The Biddulph Grange National Trust garden is situated in the village of Biddulph, close to Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire. Biddulph Grange is one of Britain's most exciting and unusual gardens and was acquired by the National Trust in 1988. The 15 acre garden is a series of connected 'compartments' designed in the mid 19th century by James Bateman to display his extensive and wide ranging plant collection. This miniature 'tour of the world', via steep and narrow paths, includes the Egyptian court, Chinese gardens, pines and rock gardens. Well worth a visit. The house is not open to the public. Tel. 01782 517999 for opening times.

This is nearly the top looking back the way we came. The stairway is on top of the ridge that drops to the left

"Theres a lady whos sure

All that glitters is gold

And shes buying a stairway to heaven.

When she gets there she knows

If the stores are all closed

With a word she can get what she came for.

...and shes buying a stairway to heaven."

"C'è una signora che è sicura che sia oro tutto quel che luccica

e sta comprando una scala per il paradiso

quando vi arriverà sa

che se tutti i negozi sono chiusi

con una parola può ottenere ciò per cui è venuta

e sta comprando una scala per il paradiso"

ha, we're getting all sorts of attention this weekend: Bill Clinton is here in Bowling Green right now, Obama is in Toledo in about 20 mins., and Hillary was there on Friday. But we're leaving to see Foo Fighters in Detroit instead. Go O!

This is the first concrete structure you reach as you get closer to the top. It rest above a large concrete pad on the same narrow ridge line the steps are constructed on. This building was erected in the early 1940s.

Taken the other i was practicing. Learning this song has been about 8 years in the making, ever since i first picked up the guitar. There have been a lot of set backs in getting it down. I hope to continue to get it near perfection sometime. Since it is the song that got me into playing music. I always like to pick up my axe and lose myself in whatever comes out of my fingers...
