Green Spring in Deltona, Florida is located in Green Springs Park, just near the north shore of Lake Monroe on the St. Johns River. The spring, off-limits to swimmers, is famous for its color, sometimes light green and sometimes emerald, changing with the amount of sulfur in the water. The sulfur and lack of trampling by swimmers has allowed the spring to develop a diverse range of unique vegetation. The spring is naturally a prime spot for photographers. Besides the spring, the trail system at the local park contains a pristine view of Florida palm hammock in the St. Johns floodplain.

Green Springs Park is near the historic area of Enterprise, which was once an important rail depot that helped to serve Florida's developing east coast as well as a steamboat port along the St. Johns, a water highway leading into Central Florida whose navigable areas end on Lake Monroe. The park is joined to nearby Gemini Springs Park by a multi-use trail called the Spring-to-Spring Trail.

We're Here visiting Springs and Coils

This scene immediately caught my eye as I was about to enter the car park at Roma Street Parkland. On display are a wonderful selection of plants. A nice way to kickstart my day's outing.

This was taken one spring evening as a storm blew over our subdivision right at sunset. I saw this cloud take shape and move, allowing the sunset to color it. I rushed in to get my camera because I was amazed at the way this cloud dwarfed all the huge homes and trees which are seen in the foreground.

Today is officially the first day of spring, and though my calendar now indicates as much, the howling winds which blew me through every alley of the city disagree. I do live in the northeast after all, so I should at least be thankful that it is not snowing. :-) Today I have a photograph for you which I almost did not take. But alas, I braved the cold and managed to put my frostbitten fingers to good use in order to setup the tripod for one last shot - which as it turns out, is now my favorite of the set.

This shot was taken near the Christian Science center in downtown Boston. In every season save winter, there is a beautiful fountain filled with water in the center of the courtyard, but today it is filled with snow. Luckily you can barely see it in the picture! Aside from that, I thought this perspective was cool, and I think the colors and tones came out pretty nice considering the time of year. I just wish the sky had more going on... maybe I'll add some clouds ;-)

Spring's beauty lies in more than its instantaneous realization. In waiting, its colors grow more vivid, its smells more potent. If spring were to arrive in an instant, that instant would mar the sensations that we cherish so much. A beautiful bloom would become just a bunch of flowers, the sublime smell of pollen would become the cause of our allergies, and perhaps worst of all, we would not get to watch the snow melt into the sunset as we revel in the landing of spring. I am a patient man, and though today may be the first day of spring, and tomorrow the next, I will wait many more until she softly touches down into my arms once again.

A balmy day today in Vancouver, at least 11C, warmer away from the water. Discovered some lovely Spring blooms on a walk at Deer Lake park in Burnaby.

Another snowy weekend and a "bake me whatever" request from family. Spring cookies, of course!

The Grand Prismatic Spring in Yellowstone National Park is the largest hot spring in the United States, and the third largest in the world. What was really cool was seeing the rainbow disperson of white light by the optical prisms.

Winter and spring are still having a bit of a shoving match around here...as this image suggests. Yesterday brought fog and melting snow; today brought a fresh layer of snow. I preferred the fog and the always interesting atmosphere that it produces. The approaching Jeep gave me a nice additional element to add to this atmospheric composition. Enjoy!
