Illinois Central had a long history of running football specials to University of Illinois home football games in Champaign, IL. In the days before paved roads were common, IC was the way for Chicagoans to watch the Illini take on their opponents at Memorial Stadium – sometimes running as many as 15 football extra trains in addition to adding cars to the regular passenger service.
The fleet of football specials petered out with the construction of Interstate 57 and the coming of Amtrak, though occasional charters still travel down the Main Line of Mid-America.
The only fairly consistent remnant of the football specials in days past has been the business car special run by IC (and later CN) to the Illinois homecoming game and/or their match with Michigan State. The train usually hosts top railroad brass and their guests.
On a crisp autumn Saturday, October 10, 2009, CN three-car special is captured at 79 mph near MP 121 between Thomasboro and Leverett, IL. E9A 100 and 101 are doing the honors.
R707 hauls the 707 Ops "Taste of the Goulburn" pass special from Southern Cross to Seymour as they upgrade past Kilmore East taken on 17/10/2015.
The Specials played Club Nokia in Los Angeles on April 15th, 2010.
The Specials hadn't played in the US for over 30 years.

Brick Model Railroader has been doing well with our Premium Instruction kits so far, but what many may not know is that we have produced a few full kits for special occasions. We donated a full copy of our BMR boxcar to our the Brickworld Charity Auction last year, and just recently produced a full version of our PS-1 boxcar in reddish brown fo a special request. These kits contained all parts needed to build the models.
Though we’re not selling full kits yet in our store, it is something we are working on. We have a plans for this year to try out selling full kits on a limited basis. We would love to hear what you think about the idea.

Greater Manchester Police's Sedgley Park Centre hosted the attestation ceremony of force's latest group of special constables on Tuesday 25 February 2020.
The ceremony saw them swear the Police Oath in front of magistrate Stephen Paine JP and assume their powers as constables.
Special Constabulary Chief Officer Mike Walmsley and Chief Superintendent Stuart Ellison welcomed the new recruits to the force.
The Special Constabulary works alongside the regular force with special constables having the same powers and responsibilities as full time officers.
The role of special constable is part-time and voluntary.
The Force's Special Constabulary is an integral part of the wider policing family, providing a flexible, visible, responsive and committed resource which assists us to improve the service we deliver to the people,

Greater Manchester Police welcomed new Special Constables at an attestation ceremony at Sedgley Park on Tuesday 27 March 2017.
Assistant Chief Constable Vanessa Jardine and Special Constabulary Chief Officer Mike Walmsley welcomed the new officers, and looked on as they took their Police Oath before local magistrate Stephen Paine JP.
All of the recruits attending the ceremony have completed a five month training programme and, once fully operational, will volunteer at least four hours of their free time every week. The main focus of their duties will be to assist GMP officers in serving local communities and preventing crime.
All Special Constables share the same powers as regular officers, including the power of arrest.
