It looks a lot like Scorpaenopsis oxycephala (Small-scale Scorpionfish) which is not common in the area, and too difficult to identify definitively from this photograph.

There are many species and subspecies of Melissodes, and ID to species is difficult.

Looking worse for wear, this SP SD45T-2 is spliced between two newer units cruising through West Chicago in 2000. It has been assimilated.

Was earlier identified as Ephestia elutella (Hübner, 1796) but boldness of pattern, straight, perpendicular, transverse first cross-line and strongly jagged preterminal line do not fit this species well. Two separate individuals were caught in 2008 and 2010 and both have this highly distinctive appearance much different from the plain, worn appearance of elutella.
Early next day as we hunted for Pediocactus sileri we found several plants of a huge coryphantha, my guess one of the vivipara varieties. I knew where to find sileri on Indian lands but Indians don't like trespassers. We ran out of time looking for this one and decided to turn back.
