On January 11, 1977 Dad shot the SP section house and water tank at San Luis Obispo from Amtrak's Coast Starlight. Compare this shot to the same scene 7 years later.

Stomaphis sp., alate female, with Lasius brunneus, on oak; the aphid initially had its left antenna held in the ant's jaws and was being dragged down the trunk by the ant, with two more ants nearby.
The first of two alate females found recently.

The E-mu SP-12 is the classic drum machine & sampler combo that paved the way for such greats as the E-mu SP-1200 and AKAI MPC series of sampling drum machines. Redesigned from E-mu's original Drumulator drum machine, the SP-12 is a classic drum machine with built in sampling capability. There is a set of preset drum sounds including kick, snare, hihats, toms, cymbals, handclap and rimshot. These sounds can be mixed and edited using the sliders. Then you can add your own beats and drum sounds using the built-in 12-bit sampler. Sampling time is limited to only a few seconds and the quality is very lo-fi (a sound loved by lo-fi and trip hop). Store your patterns and link them into songs, there's room for 100 of each! There are mono and individual outputs (no stereo). It's been used by Madlib, Large Professor, Prince Paul, DJ Premiere, etc. etc...

Might be Oiketicus sp. and Oiketicus kirbyi.
Interesting facts: The female has no antennae and no wings, does not leave the bag (!), is neotenic (also known from the Axolotl), meaning the fertilization occurs in the larval-like (but adult) stage of the female (!) by the male which opens the female's bag for mating. The female at the end is very large due to the mass of eggs (some thousands!). At the end the female drops to the ground and dies, the bag and the eggs remains attached on a leaf or little branch. Just some short info about an exciting, strange and complex behaviour!
