Stained glass in St. Mary's parish church, Titchwell, Norfolk. This illustrates Jesus' parable of the sower - the birds massing in the background, ready to snatch up the seed, are a nice touch!

Figures of Christ the Sower and a reaping angel that appear to be from designs by Henry Holiday c1880, set in an otherwise mechanical ornamental window in the south aisle.

St Wystan's at Repton is a church I'd been longing to get to for years having seen images of the Saxon crypt with it's spiral-moulded columns. The tall sharp blackened needle of a spire beckoned from afar and promised some reward for a cyclist's efforts! First thing that struck me was the wide medieval archway now leading into part of Repton School, the grounds of which I entered from the churchyard to get a good look at the Saxon stonework of the chancel which juts into their driveway! Further ancient oddments greet the visitor in the south porch, along with two columns that look Roman. A nearby sign proudly proclaims the town's role as capital of ancient Mercia.

The church is on a grand scale and would be rewarding without it's famous crypt, though not to the extent of other large churches in the county (Ashbourne, Chesterfield, Bakewell etc) which seem better endowed with monuments and old fittings. Here the monuments are confined to a 15th century alabaster effigy and a Baroque tablet and bust in the north aisle and a very quaint and folksy incised slab c1550 on the south side. The glass isn't hugely exciting, predominently by Powell's of Whitefriars though an intially dull neo-gothic south aisle window appears to incorporate a fine Christ and Angel reaper by Henry Holiday, sitting uneasily within the surrounding flat ornament!

The crypt was the highlight here for me, though so small and dark as to render photography almost impossible (and thank goodness I had the place to myself!). Certainly a good place to cool off on a hot day!

This was shot through the windshield, so I was a little disappointed in the clarity, but I wanted to share it with you anyway :) Aren't they cute !

"Sowing" by Lumen Martin Winter on the second floor of the Kansas State Capitol. Winter wheat brought new hope to the heart-breaking disappointments of the prairie in the 1870s. An early farmer applies a sod busting plow to the Kansas soil. The girl on the left dreams of a better time.

One of 8 murals that are on the second floor of the capitol. Commissioned in 1976 and completed in 1978. Originally John Steuart Curry was going to do murals for the second floor rotunda but due to a dispute with legislature Curry left. The legislature then directed a new artist to "refer to" Curry's sketches for ideas on the new murals.

I was trying to get a close up of her face but she wouldn't cooperate, thought I'd put it on anyway : ) I can't wait to see the cubs but it could be a long wait and there's no guarantee they'll make it, fingers crossed !

I've been finding loads of new badger setts recently, they seem to be everywhere even if you hardly ever see them ! Unfortunately though March sees a peak in road deaths because badgers are moving around more than usual to try and mate with members of neighbouring groups; that helps to reduce inbreeding. It's especially hard on a badger group when a female with cubs dies at this time of year, she loses two litters; because they exhibit delayed implantation many sows will already be pregnant and will lose those potential youngsters as well as the ones born this year. Fortunately though none of the dead ones I've found have been nursing sows : )

This is all getting a bit depressing now but often people will kill badgers and dump them by the roadside so they look like roadkill; it might be worthwhile having a look to see if that's the case. Although it's not ideal you can get close views of those huge front paws and the massively powerful jaws, the one below was a bit whiffy for that though ! Sorry to be a badger bore ( or boar ), I've been reading a book about them: )

I drive by this field to and from work, and noticed last week these striking lines where the farmer has obviously prepared the ground for growing.Thought i'd take a few shots for some 'lead line' interest.
