"Ventricle is a gravity formed pair of structures that hang in the interior of the Southbank Centre. Each lightweight aluminum structure is made of intertwined tubes and clad in 3M’s Solar Mirror Film. The film is typically applied to photo-voltaic panels to increase the sunlight they receive. In this case we are taking advantage of the sunlight coming through the adjacent glass walls to use the film’s ability to refract and cast light."

Common weathers', the exhibition ecosystem by new-york based studio SOFTlab and the living engages community input through an interactive lighting system embedded in the lower rings of each zone. visitors to the exhibit are invited to send text messages to the cloud 'hotline' with comments or questions about the installation. based on the content of these text messages, one or more of the funnels blink, and collective interest in the topics are registered as bright glowing regions that change over time. The translucent-like surface above and the pulsing of the interactive lighting around each lower ring are meant to operate like a weather system. a system with eddies, tangencies, turbulence, and static, much like the way ideas are formed in communities of people, neighborhoods, classrooms, nations, etc. The surface was made of over 5000 unique mylar panels, each laser cut and labeled for production. held in tension by a series of CNC cut wooden rings, the pattern changes with the height making it gradually more transparent from above and giving a gradual transition from a solid surface to a more fenestrated lace like surface.
