I notice that when I get a new toy, I tend to overdo the effects that it creates. In this case, it’s a Lensbaby Velvet 56. It creates some serious soft focus effects, and a slight bit of swirly bokeh at the edges.

I am thankful to those that have fought the enemies of freedom, and are no longer with us except in our hearts and memories. God bless you, God bless American.

Patiently awaiting the arrival of Spring.

Spring it on!

The meaning of tulips is generally perfect love

Tulips are by far my most favourite flower.

I am fascinated by their beauty from the moment they start to bloom and open, to way beyond their prime. As these

flowers mature, the colours intensify and they start taking on delightful new formations...

Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone. Enjoy your weekend.

More from my mom's backyard. I had to get a chair to stand on to take this picture. This rose plant didn't get cut back last year, so right now all the roses are 7 foot up.

Light falling in soft patches on birth and decay. Scattered bluebells challenge the legion of green blades. In a battle they have almost won before and before and before. A smell of rich brown earth and wild garlic pervades everything.

Another snowdrop I'm afraid...they really have been wonderful this year!

This is usually the look I get when Cooper knows I'm going out, it's sad, the look on that dog's face nearly breaks your heart, makes for a good photo though.

From Sissinghurst with warm wishes of a lovely mid week :) Thanks for stopping by !!

A simple trick to soft focus photography, Vaseline. Years ago when Catherine and I were shooting film a little trick we learned, and had fun with was to add {smear} some vaseline on a spare UV or clear filter. DO NOT do this on your lens!! You smear the petroleum jelly around the outer edges of the glass and try to leave the center of the filter clean and without the vaseline on it. A little alcohol on a paper towel can be used to clean the center should you get some of the jelly where you don't want it. Two other tricks to try that will give you a soft focus look is hair spray sprayed around the out perimeter of the filter, and you also can try shooting through a nylon stocking (with your wife's leg out of it) :) I haven't done this in years and I just thought about it again, found myself an unused filter, smeared the vaseline on it, and had some fun shooting the above images. Now you can buy soft focus filters, or for a much higher cost a LensBaby, and both will yield similar, but not quite the same results. But save yourself some money, smear 15 cents worth of vaseline on that filter and have some fun with it!

The path is made by walking and a little rain each day will fill the river to overflowing...

Focused.. but I like it!

This is a multiple exposure, with I think three different points of focus.

Well we're off tomorrow, so I thought I would leave you with this beautiful stallion who was sunning himself in the Forest yesterday. As you can see from his coat, the ground was sodden after all the rain we had last week.

See you all next week:-))

Just a quick note to let you know I may or may not upload any photos for a few days. I had the roof replaced on the house last week and we discovered bees nests in the drain pipes. I wouldn't have called the exterminator, except, that when you enter the front door the bees hover over your head waiting for you to go into the house and close the door and may decide to sting if you don't move fast enough. They're really big, beautiful, black and yellow bees and I'm sorry to destroy their nests, but I don't want an ouch!

The weather has also cooled to the low 60s, so it's back to gardening I go.

Will catch up with all my contacts this weekend.

Enjoy the rest of your week everyone!

Romancing a Gerbera Daisy

Gerbera daisies range from 7 to 12cm in diameter which makes this gorgeous flower suitable for flower arrangements.

They are available in a wide variety of colours.

A Scotsman named Robert Jameson discovered this flower in South Africia. Although the flower was initially discovered in 1884, it was not until about 40 years later that the bloom was first cultivated. It was named in honour of German botanist and medical doctor Traugott Gerber.

Another shot of the chrysanthemums from about a week back..quite like the curvy lines of the foreground in this one...and yes..still obsessed with shallow DOF!
