I never saw a Deadhead sticker on a Cadillac (though I did see a Crosby-Nash sticker on a LeBaron), but I was kind of tickled pink to find this peace sign on the back of this same 380SL sports coupe.
I'm sure the previous owner believed in peace in the utopian hippie sense - aren't Benz drivers bourgeois liberals? ;-) - but there is an obvious similarity between the peace sign an the Mercedes-Benz three-pointed star.
To quote Chris Matthews, "Hah!"

R107
In 1971, the R107 was introduced with a new design language and safety features that would influence subsequent Mercedes models. For the first time, V8 engines were fitted to the SL-Class. Produced from 1971 to 1989, the R107 became one of Mercedes longest-produced models. For the 1981 model year, engine options were updated with new aluminum V8s. A major update followed in 1985, featuring a deeper front air dam, revised braking system, a driver's side airbag and a catalytic converter option. Over the years, the model range included 9 different engine variants.

For many, this is the first true supercar. Originally, it was a pure racing car - type name SLR - of which only 10 were built in 1952. Between 1955 and 1957, 1.400 Gullwings were produced : it was the first production car with fuel injection. A key feature was its extremely rigid construction thanks to a tubular chassis. What captures the imagination most are the gullwing doors, which inspired many nicknames. 29 ex. with aluminum bodywork were also built, resulting in a weight saving of 158 kg. The 300 SL has long been a benchmark in classic car valuation, somewhat like the gold standard.

Here's another Mercedes-Benz SL sports coupe form the New York Auto Show, this one in silver.
I could only get a picture of the front end , rather than the profile, because too many people were crowding around it.
Greta Garbo, had the same trouble, I understand . . ..
Here's a glamourous 1999 Mercedes-Benz SL sport coupe in an unglamourous setting - a parking lot next to a bland brick wall. Still. . . cool car, eh? Nice beige color. :-)
