Number 7,missing her ear tag, and her newborn calf. We were under a tornado watch for hours last evening when this little guy came into the world here at home. I named him Stormy. I didn't notice the after birth "bonnet" on Stormy's head until I loaded this photo to my computer. Odd things like this is what makes photography so much fun to me and it keeps me going.
At first I thought it was an interesting stick on the water, then it moved its head. Unfortunately I didn't have a good spot nor a canoe to get closer. This is the best shot I got from where I was.
View on black please, and she won't fly away.
Despite my love for coastlines, rushing rivers, and mountain peaks, I occasionally find myself yearning for a dose of the big city. When it strikes, I usually hightail it for San Francisco for a day of urban shooting. Here, in the financial district, I found the lines, geometric shapes, and the reflections in the windows the perfect antidote for situational urbanitis.
Happy Fence Friday everyone.

Super Blood Wolf Moon Eclipse is a mouthful!
East Tennessee had a break in skies just hours before the eclipse only to have a final blanket of cloud cover obscure the first two hours of the eclipse. So looking at this as a glass half-full situation I was able to start shooting about 15 minutes before totality began. Dark skies were used as a backdrop to this composite so you'll notice a few stars appear randomly in the background.

Well ..... it's ALMOST Spring! :)
There I was, feeling frustrated doing an errand instead of taking a walk in the park (it's an either-or situation these days, as I'm not able to walk as much) when there they were .. a beautiful assortment of crocus, blooming among the weeds along Denman Street in Vancouver's West End. I got so excited I almost forgot why I was there in the first place!
VIDEO - Crocus flowers open to the sunlight and close again as the sun sets, or on dark days. Here's the link to a video of the flower opening and closing.

My first photo of a Peregrine Falcon - - I've seen them before but never got a picture - - this is a heavy crop shot from a moving boat but I'm happy how it turned out considering the situation.

Certain situations in the bird world always happen so quickly that humans hardly notice them. Only ever since I started photographing birds, I've known that quite often they like to land on one leg first. I think this moment looks very elegant when frozen in a photo. Almost like dancing. For comparison see this image of a landing Egyptean Goose
Comp. info: I don't normally take photos at midday because I don't like the contrasts in harsh light. The lighting was different for this picture: rain clouds were moving across the area and the glistening sun was repeatedly dimmed and the light scattered by clouds. I took advantage of that to get a photo with a more soft light.
This Japanese Beetle and coincidently the Bumble Bee have got themselves in a prickly situation here on this Scottish Thistle. This photo was taken when we went on our hike out to our favorite trail.

The church of St Bartholomew is in a remarkably impressive situation away from the town, in a treeless churchyard very close to the sea. The town was originally called South Wallerick, after the Danish invasion in AD875 the town was renamed Neubegang or Newbegining, with several different spellings until we have the present Newbiggin.
There is evidence of an ancient Saxon Chapelry here, this chapel of ease is supposed to have been built by the monks of Lindisfarne and used by them in their mission to Northumbria an also on their journeys to and from Tynemouth Priory and Whitby.
The present church has 13th century origins. It was once the 'daughter' church in the parish of Woodhorn but was made the 'mother' church of the parish when St Mary the Virgin in Woodhorn was declared redundant in 1973.
There are many interesting and attractive features to be seen in this light and airy church. Especially striking is the east window by Stanley Murray Scott (1912-1997). One feature that is present throughout any visit, yet often unmarked 'is the ceaseless murmur of the sea which pervades the building even on calm day, as it no doubt has done ever since a church stood on this site'.

A female Chalkhill Blue (Polyommatus coridon / Lysandra coridon) pauses in the sweltering heat at Aston Rowant nature reserve. She was right down in the grasses so I had to get to minimum focus, max zoom and open the lens wide to blur the chaos somewhat. Not the sharpest situation for that lens so this is pretty picture level only.
Buddy welcomes me in the morning and she likes sitting on this particular branch. It's a win-win situation because it is quite low and I can make nice pictures from both sides (Squirrels-2020-6013.jpg)
From a series of macro dandelion shots I did recently. A bit of a commentary on we as a society at this juncture in history.
In Mummy Marian's garden is a secret Magic Portal. After opening the door, you enter Australia where Peter and Oleg's friends live. The Fairy Mum has made it possible.
Peter is on his way with a red bauble and enters the Portal when disaster strikes. He trips over the threshold and the bauble is now in two pieces.
PETER:
Oh..no (shocked)
FUNKY: ( nearby the Magical Portal)
Peter! How sad you look....what happened????
PETER: (cries)
I....I...wanted to take a bauble to Australia, but it broke because I fell. I wanted to exchange this bauble with one of those beautifully made baubles by Daddy Jesse. The worst part is that I took the bauble out of Mummy Marian's decorated Christmas tree. What to do Funky. I feel terrible. If Oleg finds out about this he will never love me again....and the Christmas Bear will not give a present to me...and...Mummy Marian will never be nice to me again...and...and...I am a cr...cr.imi...err...thief.
FUNKY:
This is so bad Peter...what you did.
I was taught that you should never steal and if you like something you can always ask for it.
Let's see what I can do for you
PETER:
I'm so cold Funky, it's raining here and...hatsjoe....I don't feel well.
FUNKY:
I will be fine....here...take my handkerchief, then you can dry your tears and blow your nose
PETER:
Thank you Funky...you are so kind
