It is difficult to think that one can only set up a picnic, not so much for the task of making the sandwiches, but for the laziness of extending the blanket in the middle of the lawn and sit unattended to watch the ants go by. This can be an introspective snack in the infinite field of subjectivity. Our respect for those moments of self. A picnic involves more than one person, conjunction, attention and care by the other, pooling. The same happens with our Picnic, to which one can come alone but the empathy, the friction of the bodies, the laughter and the background summer sunsets, make of the experience something unforgettable collective. In this edition of the Picnic we insist on another year in the peculiar movement that produces the ephemeral, in the here and now, in the subtlety of the game of intensities, in the limits of perception, in the unknown. We wanted to slow down the blink, the wink, our breath, we wanted to sweat, excite us, activate our bodies and minds in a kinesthesia exercise. Creating a parenthesis in virtuality we think of these picnic as a catalyst that produces unexpected but tangible effects, that touched us, that affected us and that we return to the city with another look at our daily life.

In celebration of the 10th anniversary of Citi Summer Streets, DOT Art commissioned Daily tous les jours and Nico Fonesca to present a new edition of their interactive installation, “Food Sessions” at the Astor Place Rest Stop. Four seatings of the participatory expedition were held each Summer Streets Saturday. Each session offered a multi-media atmosphere that incorporated sound, food and technology. The guided meditation-like experience allowed for participants to share a journey together in the form of a meal while seated at a long banquet table. After being served a plate of food, participants listened to instructions through wireless headphones that prompted them to eat with all of their senses. As they were asked to take a bite of the granola, yogurt or fruit on their plate, the directions encouraged them to text responses to questions that asked to recall a memory, share personal food culture and open up the imagination. Each response appeared on screens within the installation space for the audience to read. The series of exercises aimed to enrich participants’ relationships with the food they consume and the people they share it with. Daily tous les jours, a Montreal-based multidisciplinary art and design team, works to transforms everyday life scenarios.

Special thanks to Chef John Mooney, Citi, noosa, Nature’s Path and Honest Tea for making the exhibition possible.

PICNIC SESSIONS. INTERNATURALTECNOWAVES

PROGRAMACIÓN DE LA TERRAZA

31 MAYO — 12 JULIO

«A ver…

Mode on.

INTERNATURALTECNOWAVES

TERRACE PROGRAMMING

MAY 31 - JULY 12

EVERY THURSDAY 21:00

The Picnic Sessions turn 10 and, like every spring, we occupy the terrace every Thursday from May 31 to July 12. A space to mix the physical and the sound; where to meet, dance, sing and watch the sunset.

«Let's see ... INTERNATURALTECNOWAVES, that we are all interconnected by techno waves, something like that? It refers yes, to something electronic but more recent. But also to this interconnection that is generated between all of us who congregate at the Picnic. That are formed as itinerant communities of meaning. Electronic music without electronic instruments I like too. For me these Picnic have that digital touch, sensible, but not nostalgic, right? Because… Ah! Another thing we liked was this idea that although it is trash-techno, there is still a lot of light in the programming itself, we bet on that. There must be something kind of hypnotic. Yes, yes, and color.

«Do you want us to start recording? Yes, I'm already recording. On mode. Everything happens like this, in a desert of internaturaltecnowaves, electronic and recent, where everything that has black goblin sounds, full of sparkles, magnetism, metallic howls, fluorescent roads with irreverent songs, soft material machine, a techno trash collage of luminous power. Hypnotic, and yes, with a lot of color or many colors. Very Móstoles and very southern. With a pair of pink hoods on the head and some marks on the body. A pact of permanence in a Polaroid photo. A mixture of bodies that vibrate to the sound of their songs and sweat hormones between luminous tubes that illuminate a night without moon but full of stars, dancing in the freedom of the well rooted. “Among spring flowers, black buffalo lie down, among erect pine trees, white cranes rest. With our voices, the twilight falls on the terrace ”. Do you dare to do something like this? ».

Lay leaders and clergy participate in focus sessions.

In this edition of the Picnics we celebrate once more the lightness as a virtue: it seems that all the invited artists have released unnecessary ballasts, to show us that the important thing is an immediate access, without superfluous mediations, in which to be able to share with us all that Which seems impossible in other spaces and contexts. With works that are easy to transport, where you avoid the artifice, you illuminate the detail and caress the spontaneous: the pleasure of doing what you do, sensitivity, sensoriality and perception, exposing the vagaries and creative nooks and crannies. We still want to make you an active participant. We want to eat with you, to dance with you, to sing with you, to imagine with you, to think with you, to build with you. Light but still with our feet on the earth, not to lose even a single moment of these paradises that we want to make everyday.
