Black and white long exposure photography. Also known as rainy day project with one of my sons. The harder part for the model is to keep the head in the exact same position when he removes the hand.

An experiment in capturing the trees in the backyard silhouetted against the rising moon. I was hoping the clouds wouldn't blur so much, but they were really moving along.

A ki'i stands in front of the Hale o Keawe in Pu’uhonua o Honauna National Historical Park on the big island of Hawai'i. Wooden images of the gods, known to the ancient Hawaiians as ki’i, protect Pu’uhonua o Honauna, one of the most sacred places in Hawaii. The ki’i guard the Hale o Keawe Heiau, a sacred temple that housed the bones of 23 Hawaiian chiefs said to still inhabit the area with their power or mana. On one side of the Temple and wall was the Pu’uhonua or place of refuge. Until 1819, defeated Hawaiian warriors and those who broke sacred law could escape death by reaching this sacred ground. A ceremony of absolution would take place to allow the law-breaker to return to society. On the other side of the Temple and wall was the Royal Grounds. Some of the ki'i were also placed at the entrance to the Royal grounds as warnings to the commoner. Kapu Ki’i, a wooden image that guards the royal grounds, reminds those who see it of the kapu or laws requarding approaching or distrubing the royals. Those ignoring the Kapu Ki’i may pay with their life for their transgression.

A closer look at the interior of the Scary Laboratory.
I built the towers separately so they can be rearranged to suit different layouts.
The main section includes the operating table and 'Lightning machine' along with some potion vials and a small generator.
The West tower features the 'Test tube room' filled with odd, bulbous sickly green tubes containing the supposed remains of victims of the Mad scientist.
The East Tower features the generator and control panel for the lightning machine.

Another collaboration with Random House! Super fun to work on and any excuse to draw a lagoon monster is cool in my books.
