The wane of summer at salt

This replica of ESA’s Ops-Sat was displayed at this month’s Agency Technology workshop.

The mini-satellite is made up of three standardised 10 x 10 x 10 cm CubeSat units with deployable solar panels on each side.

Ops-Sat is a technology demonstrator, although its purpose is not to evaluate experimental hardware but instead to test out radically new control systems and techniques.

In order to do this, experimental software will be uploaded to the satellite – which contains a computer 10 times more powerful than any current ESA spacecraft – each day, along with its ground system.

In effect, Ops-Sat, due for launch in 2017, will be a flying software lab. More than 100 companies and institutions from 17 European countries have registered experimental proposals to fly.

Sattal is a collection of seven interconnected freshwater lakes, located in the Kumaon Lake region, just 22 km from Nainital. Set at an altitude of nearly 4,000 ft, these lakes are surrounded by pine and oak forests, with the foothills of the Himalayas rising in the near distance. Sattal actually means seven lakes in Hindi, and is known for its un-spoilt natural beauty. Since a large portion of the forests here are protected, the area is rich in bird life, and is also a great place for nature walks and butterfly watching. The rugged mountainous region offers several trekking, rappelling and biking opportunities for the adventure lovers.

The Hellas-Sat-4/SaudiGeoSat-1 communications satellite in an acoustics chamber at Lockheed Martin in Sunnyvale, California.

A bit chilly today so I opted for a denim mini and a pair of 60 denier tights to keep the old legs warm.

It's all being kicking off in the village today, at 0600 this morning some idiot tried to rob our local shop at knife point. No one hurt, thank goodness, then at about 10.00 am there was an attempted murder as someone deliberately ran over the idiot who tried to rob the shop, he is now in hospital. Our local police have now got three local idiots locked up. Drink and drugs, never a good mix. Get a life!
