USCG MH-60 Jayhawk. I went with a decent 1/400s to keep both the helicopter and the demo crew member in focus while retaining some motion blur. It turned out okay—and you can even spot a flock of birds passing by.
During the recent (10/10/24) geomagnetic storm and associated aurora event, we noticed a band of red rising from the west that was stationary, quite different from the pillars of color moving across the northern sky. This red band appears to have been a rare appearance of a stable auroral red (SAR) arc.
Unlike the aurora which are generated by solar particles raining down on Earth's atmosphere, SAR are generated by extreme thermal and kinetic heating from energy conducted from the magnetic/ electrical field around Earth to the ionosphere, the outermost atmospheric layer. SAR arcs appear as relatively stationary east-west arcs.
Note the two radio antennae in the foreground, part of a NOAA installation north of Boulder Colorado, as well as the Milky Way cutting across the bottom of the SAR.

Sun, sea sky and bright colours had me thinking of a Yellow House and the notions of School of the South that fill my mind with Vincent Van Gogh. Sea air and the bright potential of Lerwick lead me off Commercial Street into shades alongside the R.N.L.I. Lifeboat Station that takes me to the harbour. Nothing here may bring Arles and intense colour to you, but I would ask about the intention of colour, of out place highlighted other worldly life brought in and set to encounter and contrast in the Life Boat of sailing with flags, rags from sea borne chic to well loved drabs.
Colour and light striking from a Dutch perspective of France and words rattling around head from A Man’s a Man for a’ That by Robert Burns.

I had a fun few hours trying to catch some colour after my phone app alerted me to the chance of an aurora. While I didn't really see the normal sheets of green and red, there was this permanent band of red covering the whole sky from west to east, I think it's called a Sub auroral red arc. Anyway it was great to see and to use in various ways. Most of my shots were on my coast, but I've always wanted to get a shot with this dramatic tree in silhouette, so On Call by Kings of Leon it is. I'm off to see Hamilton in Cardiff today with the granddaughters, should be fun.

30mm f/2.8, Canon EOS R a 6400 ISO.
Buona giornata :)
