Mint-scented sage, aka Salvia Guaranitica

'Black & Blue' is a perennial subshrub, tolerates drought, gophers; attracts butterflies and hummingbirds.

Right now, this plant is in our new greenhouse, and will be planted outdoors after our winter rains end...whenever that is...

While in Yellowstone last week, we had the opportunity to watch this grizzly sow and cub for a few minutes. The sow was leading the cub through the sage towards the road so as to cross to the other side.

We came upon them while we were driving down the road. There were a few people who had seen them, and pulled over. After initially stopping near the other vehicles, we pulled off on a pullout near a small rise, near an area where I had seen wolves cross the road on several occasions. Just as we pulled off the road, it began to snow lightly.

My guess paid off, and the bears came towards us, then turned to cross the road about 130 meters away. This is the same area I have seen the wolves cross the road on previous occasions.

Luck was with us that day, and this is the result.

Sage plant after overnight frost - HSS!

A segment of the Sage building in Gateshead, North East England

When I hear a report of a bird this rarely seen in Santa Cruz....Let's just say if we see each other that I am likely to be more surprised than the bird!

Sage Sundays - I hope everyone is doing well. This one was shot before the golden hour really hit. Ambient/available light only.

might be wild sage, a very common plant here on the Greek island of Syros

This is the first time I have run into this bird. He sat patiently as I kept closing in and even varied his pose many times. If all Sage Thrashers are this friendly and accommodating I hope I get a lot more chances to see them.

Thank you for taking the time to view my images. Any faves and comments are deeply appreciated!

First time seeing the Sage Gateshead whilst in Newcastle, designed by Norman Foster. It does resemble a large shiny peanut (in a good way).

❀ "Salvia guaranitica — commonly known as anise sage, anise-scented sage, blue anise sage, or hummingbird sage — is a species of perennial flowering plant in the sage/mint family (Lamiaceae), native to a wide area of South America. However, it is cultivated all over the world.

Salvia guaranitica is a small shrub growing 4 to 5 feet tall (1.2 to 1.5 m), spreading into a large patch via its spreading roots. The leaves are ovate, measuring 1.6 inches long (4 cm) and nearly as wide, with a fresh, mint-green color and an anise scent when crushed. The inflorescences are up to 10 inches long (25 cm) with flowers in various shades of blue."

The blue hue captured on camera was so intense that I reduced the saturation during the editing process. Nevertheless, it's still vivid!

Every year at this time the Sage Grouse gather on what is called a Lek. The males display for the females by puffing up their chests and making a popping sound with those yellow airsacks.

We were very lucky to get to go on a tour of a sage grouse lek here in Colorado. What an amazing experience.

Sage Gateshead is a concert venue and also a centre for musical education, located in Gateshead on the south bank of the River Tyne, in the North East of England. It opened in 2004 and is tenanted by the North Music Trust

This plant bug is one of the reasons our garden sage is turning orange. My reaction is not to spray insecticide, but to feed the sage with admittedly inorganic feed. It seems to be working as there's enough clean new growth to keep us in sage through the summer.
