It's hard to tell on the plain white background, but this Rustic Sphinx moth is huge -- more than big enough to cover the palm of my hand. They can be up to three inches long, front to back. Besides that, they have a really striking and complex pattern. This was the first one I'd ever seen in person, and it was really impressive.

Here is a free colouring layer I created and use on many of my photo creations including Oh Buoy, Happy Days and It's a Long Way Home. If you like the look, give it a try.

Some ropes on the harbor side in Conwy. Love old ropes, just something simple yet kinda interesting, well for 15 seconds at least.

After having a great short trip, we decided it was time to head home so we bit the bullet and braced for a long day of driving. It was a murky morning in Florence but when we crossed the Cascades the weather got better. Short picnic lunch outside of Redmond (with great views of the mountains), then a god awful curvy, slow, mostly dull and mind numbing drive along OR 26 for what seemed like eternity. About the only thing of interest on this stretch was a shoe tree.

Rustic Baubles

These truly stunning bauble bundles make unique and beautiful Christmas decorations. Each bundle is made up of 6 baubles, all hand made from recycled glass and tied together with recycled 'Kantha' saris.

All Nkuku glass is 100% recycled. This not only saves energy (50% less energy than that required to make new glass) but is an ongoing process, as glass can be recycled continually. This means we can create new beautiful and useful objects with less impact on our environment.

Nkuku Rustic Baubles

Size: Each Bauble approx 6cm

Did You Know?

- Originally christmas Trees were decorated with apples, strings of popcorn, white candy canes and pastries in the shapes of stars, hearts and flowers.

- Glass baubles were first made in Lauscha, Germany, by Hans Greiner who produced garlands of glass beads similar to the popcorn strands and tin figures that could be hung on trees.

- The Polish name for baubles is 'bombka' which translates as 'a little bomb'.

Thanks, as always, to Wikipedia for these little nuggets of information

The house I am staying at in South Africa has a thatched roof and much of the woodwork is made from rustic pine logs. It looks pretty good in the sunlight.

Rustic inn

The Rustic Inn was established in 1955 by Henry Oreal and his brother-in-law Burton Wayne McDonald[1].

The history of this Fort Lauderdale family-owned landmark goes back over 50 years to the early days of sight-seeing boats and Seminole Indians wrestling gators. They also featured a beer drinking pig. Patrons included Arthur Godfrey, Frances Langford, Ginny Simms and Ralph Evinrude.

The Rustic Inn Crabhouse began as a roadhouse saloon. Over time the hole-in-the-wall grew, keeping with the demand for steamed crabs. It was a customer that tasted a crab cooked in the owner's secret family recipe, a taste that would become the signature World Famous Garlic Crabs.

The Rustic Inn now features waterfront dining on a dock. The establishment also has a barge, cocktail lounge, and dining room.

This is my first image in a series of 3 for a new college assignment based around fruit, veg, and table settings.

After the boat ride, the sun disappeared and the rain began. Sometimes drizzle, sometimes pouring. Occasionally the rain stopped, but the clouds remained. Because of the altitude (roughly 1250 metres), we are inside the clouds. Even late in the afternoon it looks very, very foggy.

We are staying at the Rustic Lodge in Santa Elena. Despite the name, it is the nicest accommodation so far. Two good-sized rooms plus the bathroom (with hot water, not just warm water, but hot). There are skylights and big windows with glass panes (so no bugs inside).

We walked to town (through Santa Elena to Monteverde) for a late lunch. I had a Napoli pizza (tasty) and Pam ordered rice and chicken. By the end of lunch, it was 3 pm. Pam & I split from the group and walked back to Santa Elena.

The two towns (villages) of Monteverde and Santa Elena are spread out over hills and the shops and houses line only a couple streets, making the area "long" rather than a cluster. It seems less touristy than La Fortuna (where everywhere seemed to offer some kind of tour or souvenirs). It's still clearly a tourist area though. Most shops are restaurants, coffee shops, a couple souvenir and tour places. But also a school, post office, pharmacy, etc.

Pam & I stopped at the Tree Top Cafe and I had a hot latte (and a reprieve from the cold rain). It was my first latte of the trip. (There are no Starbucks to be found here).

We ate locally-made ice cream - coffee as well as blackberry flavoured - at a small shop in the "downtown" and I also bought a toucan fridge magnet to add to my collection. (The only souvenir of the trip).
