As fascinated as I am by the many abandoned cabins and trailers that sit decomposing in the Southern California desert, I'm just as intrigued by the possessions that have been left behind with them. Pictured here, a rusty old bedspring I stumbled upon in the yard of a deserted jackrabbit homestead in Wonder Valley, CA.

Rusted Chain and Rope - Mossel Bay Yacht Basin

I was digging in my neighbor's garage to get a ladder to take my rust shot today. I climbed up to the top of the ladder and got a few shots and then put the ladder back in the garage. Then I saw this bike. I came in uploaded my photos and didn't like any of them and then went back out and dragged this amazing bicycle out. I think I'm can get four or five different shots off of this bike alone. Gorgeous!

It feels as if all of life is rotting away, that the rust of long-exposure has consumed the final core of strength. The shadows cast are long and dark. Circumstances rise up to obscure a wider view and the failing heart turns away from the source of Light and hope.

May 4, 2015. I saw this outstanding artifact yesterday while cycling along Coverdale Road from Salisbury, and on learning that this week's Moncton Photos group theme is 'Old and rusty' I had to drive out there over lunch today to grab a photo. Other than that, I spent the day in meetings and preparing for our program review. Good productive day.
