On this old building in the Presidio, the steel door may be painted over with graffiti, but that doesn’t stop rust from doing its thing. It makes for a gritty texture and, um, rustic look.

Jim (active metabolite) suggested I explore this rusted out car ... thanks!

I heard a bit more of the story from a fellow dog walker. Apparently it was a stolen car, dumped about six months ago in the bush. The council moved it to where it is now (still in the bush, but near a track it could be towed away from). About a week later, it was torched. It's still not been taken away. To me, it's become a bit of a feature on this particular walk, and I'd miss it!

This is the largest operating open pit iron ore mine in the world, more than three miles long, two miles wide and 535 feet deep. This man-made "Grand Canyon of the North" was the first strip mine on the Mesabi Iron Range.
