2 day workshop with Alice exploring using rust in textile art

I first saw Rusted Root play at the Boat House in Norfolk, VA, one of my favorite small venues. I later saw them in Richmond, Virginia, and then at the House of Blues in Myrtle Beach, and now twice at the Lincoln Theatre in Raleigh.

They play an eclectic blend of world inspired Rock that is heavy on percussion and non-traditional instruments. Their music is frenetic and entrancing and just a whole lot of fun with power and raw emotion thrown in for good measure.

Each of their independent acts is worth catching, but together they are an amazing band.

Rust, Locks, Cracks, Rot, Dirt and Mud. Beautiful Simplicitiy.

Anyone with steel on their boats knows that the ocean is constantly working to eat their vessel right out from under them. When the days of fishing grow long, rust busting becomes a low priority. These shackles on a fishing boat in Charleston, Oregon testify to the battle between the elements and elbow grease.

To get to this ghost town I drove up this narrow dirt road on a steep hill for about a hour without any real knowledge that this ghost town actually existed.
