Pear rust is a Biotroph fungus which cannot survive on dead plant matter so keeps its host alive. It attacks Pears during the summer but moves to Juniper leaves during the winter as Pears shed their leaves. It needs two hosts in order to survive because of this.

A happy return to another old friend after a couple of years away. St George is a sprawling, rugged fortress of a church in a working village on Romney Marsh. The vast empty interior is at once haunting and sad. The north aisle is now used for displays about old village life.

Rust on a drilling rig at Roma.

I kept crossing this bike chained up by the sea front. I've seen it about 50 times in the last few years, but each time it's either shit weather, night time or there are loads of people standing next to it.

 

Finally.

A rusted bolt on a bridge along a bicycle trail south and west of Lincoln, Nebraska. I thought it looked interesting.

Enjoying the rust taking over this particular piece of a train car. I ran this through Photomatix twice, one with Detail Enhancer and then a second round using Tone Compressor. I threw the compressed layer over the enhanced layer and then Multiplied. It really brought out the richness in the colors!

On the shores of Jacobs Estuary, Riverton.

This large gall is the overwintering structure of Cedar-Apple Rust. Gall on Eastern Red Cedar. Centennial Lake, Maryland.

This rusting caboose is sitting outside of the old Canaan Train Station in Canaan, Connecticut. The station is closed now and I am not sure exactly what is planned for the old station. It appears their is some reuse planning going on.
