Day 44/365.
More or less the same set up as this photo.
Water plus iron plus oxygen plus time minus routine maintenance equals the basement sink run-off drain is ruined. The pipe in question literally crumbled in my hands during removal, as if the plumbing in our home were a material more akin to crackers than to iron.
Having read an article on Krown rust treatment in Classics Monthly recently and then read good customer reviews online we decided to book in here. Krown is a Canadian product which protects vehicles from rust and inhibits what's there already. The Canadian military use it.
Rust. Etat du Burgenland. Neusiedlersee.
I didnt know which way I liked this picture better so I added both. I like the repetition in this one :)
These monopoles are approximately 40-45 years old. Their nearly century-old neighboring lattice tower has withstood the elements much better than this younger replacement for one set of the lattice towers.
NOTE...most of the right-of-way does not carry lines on the lowest tier, only the top three plus the shield wire.
These originate from the coal-fired steam generation plant in Kenosha, WI and the now de-commissioned Zion Nuclear Power Plant and terminate just south of Golf Road in Skokie, IL.
This station track at the Port Huron, Michigan Amtrak station sits alone rusting away and hasn't seen a train on it's rails in at least ten years.
in and around the ground of kirklinton hall, an empty husk of a stately home from the 1600's. a great location and I was privileged to meet the current ownner who plans to restore it to its former glory.
I hope these four look thematically good together and work as a teaser for the shots of the hall to follow.
I saw this rust on a power box and just knew I could find a suitable quote.

Mangonui our night stop, day five on our trip up north, March 2012, Northland, NZ
Taipa-Mangonui is one name given to a string of small resort settlements in the far north of New Zealand's North Auckland Peninsula, close to the base of the Aupouri Peninsula. The resorts of Taipa, Cable Bay, Cooper's Beach, and Mangonui, all of which lie along the coast of Doubtless Bay, are so close together that they have run together to form one larger settlement with a combined population of 1566 (2006 census).
The "miniature conurbation" lies 150 kilometres by road northwest of Whangarei (though only 100 kilometres as the crow flies), and 20 kilometres northeast of Kaitaia. It is thus the northernmost centre in New Zealand with a population of above 1000, even though it is nearly 100 kilometres southeast of the northernmost tip of the North Island. Mangonui means "great or big shark" in the Maori language.

I tested the rust antiquing set on different brands of clay to see if any particular brand worked best. I didn't see any significant difference. Here are the results, from photo top to bottom (left column used 1 coat of metallic paint; right column used 2 coats)
Premo (black)
UL Sculpey (white)
Fimo Soft (blue)
Kato (black)
Studio by Sculpey (green)
As you can see, it didn't really matter what color clay I used. (At least until I sanded off the finish -- see that here.)
