29 July 2021: As reported yesterday a small number of people are still getting infected with the coronavirus even after being vaccinated, the symptoms they report differ from those for non-vaccinated people. The few people that are fully vaccinated and are not asymptomatic report following complaints: headaches, a runny nose, sneezing, sore throat, and a loss of smell. Not only fever, but also a persistent cough has disappeared from the list. The loss of smell – which was also a well-known symptom of the original strain of the virus – reappeared. The findings come from a large-scale study conducted by the King’s College London University in collaboration with health science company ZOE, based on data from more than four million people who use ZOE’s COVID Symptom Study app worldwide. The researchers pointed out that although vaccinated patients show fewer (severe) symptoms and get better faster, and that there are virtually no people in hospitals who have been vaccinated you better have a corona test done as soon as you suddenly start sneezing for no apparent reason. Meanwhile, the number of infections in Belgium is still up albeit at a slower pace. Between 19 and 25 July, an average of 1,472 new coronavirus infections were detected per day, a 8% increase from the average of the previous week. Every once in awhile I step outside my comfort zone. Rarer than every blue moon, but not as rare as hell freezing over. Usually happens on Valentine's day as some of you who are familiar with my photostream have noticed. Trust me when I tell you, though, I'd much rather be building something in my woodworking shop.
Here's a few of the things that went wrong today: (1) Pans were not the right size ... too large ... but whatta ya gonna do when its too late to go get more? (2) Haven't learned how to get the tops of the layers perfectly flat. Well, I have, but too lazy to cut up strips of towel, wet them, and put them around the circumference of the cake pan before putting it in the oven. (3) Since the pans were too large, not quite enough filling. (4) That chocolate glaze wasn't quite runny enough ... wanted it dripping down more. Etc, etc, ... Oh well, it tasted pretty good ... and she liked it.
I saw this on the cover of a magazine back in December some time while I was looking for an Astronomy magazine. It looked pretty good and I thought I might like to try it, but I didn't buy the magazine. By time I went back to get it a month or so later it was gone. However, you can find anything on the Internet if you put in the right search words.

Carrot Cake recipe
Ingredients
175gr6oz sunflower oil
175g/6oz light muscovado sugar
100g/3oz sultanas
175g /6oz self raising flour
5ml/1tsp bicarb of soda
5ml/1tsp ground allspice
40g/1oz walnut pieces
3 beaten eggs
175g/6oz grated carrot
finely grated orange rind
200g /7oz soft cheese
55g/2oz sifted icing sugar
(15ml /1tbsp orange juice)
Method
1 Preheat oven 180°C, 450°F Reg 4.
2 Beat together the oil, sugar and eggs.
3 Stir in the grated carrots, rind, sultanas and walnuts.
4 Sift together flour, spice and bicarb and stir into mixture.
5 Spoon into 24 bun cases or 11” x 7”greased and lined baking tray.
6 Bake approx 45 mins until firm and golden brown.
7 For the topping drain cheese then beat together soft cheese, icing sugar (and orange juice if necessary) until smooth.
8 Spread topping on cooled cake.
NB
Philly is fine but do not use low-cal types as it goes too runny. Check consistency of topping carefully, only add juice if mixture is too stiff to spread.

When I arrived in Siem Reap for two days of exploring the Angkor complex, I was dying with the cold. This was taken after almost no sleep, with a constantly runny nose and doped up with paracetamol. Later that afternoon, I hit what marathon runners call 'the wall' and almost collapsed. Still, I'm glad I didn't stay in my sick bed!

Photography’s new conscience
I came across this little boy at a dusty rice drying yard outside of Dhaka. He was really going on at it helping his sister scoop up unhusked rice grains into the canvas sacks. This is the final step in the rice drying process before it gets shipped to factories to be husked. The boy had a constant runny nose, and his gargantuan efforts resulted in a string of secretions that ran down his mouth. I guess so much for dry rice!

Our county in Virginia has a leash law for dogs. Apparently, our next door neighbor thought that only meant you had to carry a leash and let the dog run free. The dog was constantly runny loose though our yard.
Yesterday, the dog viciously attacked and killed our sweet, little feral cat, Taffy. It was a very traumatic experience.
We will miss sweet Taffy. She was born under our deck in April 2005. For 15 years, she lived on our deck and remained feral until she died.
Rest in Peace little one. See you at the Rainbow Bridge.

With the help of my dear hubby, I was able to take some Valentine photos of my two favourite subjects. Poor Acadia had a cold with a runny nose and goopy eyes (poor thing), but was a great sport. Chase was bribed with a few cookies, and he was great, too. I love these two, and cherish every moment I have with them.

Filed under “Experimental”. I must admit to being in two minds about this one, despite many attempts. It turns out that Rowse Runny Honey is rather more reflective than I imagined. And it’s also a bit too runny especially when the yellow glass is tilted to better frame the shot. So it's either a motion shot or a still life, possibly a macro and maybe even slightly appetising. But I can't waste any more of our honey or management will be asking questions. I'm nothing if not adventurous. Feel free to critique...😎

I am still sick with nothing more than a cold but it hasn't gone away. I haven't been to work because I'm coughing up phlegm and blowing my runny nose all day long. Thought you would like to know that!
(349/366) I really enjoy making my own Cranberry sauce.
Recipe :- 2 x 300g punnets of fresh Cranberries, 180g of sugar, 250ml of Port, 200ml of fresh orange juice (plus the zest of an orange & a lemon). You can use caster sugar but I prefer a less runny sauce so I use jam sugar which has added pectin to aid setting. Tesco had run out of cheap Ruby Port so I've used Tawny. I honestly can't say it makes any difference. Of course I've had to sample a small glassful purely for research purposes you understand!
Method :- Before you start wash your jars & lids thoroughly & allow them to dry (I put my jars through the dishwasher last night). Place all the ingredients in a large saucepan, bring to a rapid boil so the Cranberries pop, stir regularly at this stage. Turn down the heat & allow the sauce to simmer gently stirring it occasionally. Meanwhile warm your clean jars & lids in the oven for a few minutes.
After about 15 minutes take the saucepan off the heat & allow to cool for a couple of minute. The sauce will thicken as it cools. Pour or spoon the sauce into the warm jars (I decant the sauce into a Pyrex jug first, the spout makes it easier & less messy to pour into the jars). Put the lids on the jars immediately, very tightly. As the sauce cools the lids will contract & any safety buttons will "pop" down. This has made 2 large jars & 1 small, about 1kg of sauce in total. The jars will keep in a cupboard indefinitely unopened & can be stored in the fridge for a few weeks once opened.
