this is Charlie a captive cougar. He got a little spooky and seemed uneasy so he had to be calmed down by the handler. Not on the same level as a zoo shot as there are no obsticales between you and the critter. I have only see cats twice in the wild.
Local running club, Ealing Eagles, were out in force as todays 5K was a championship event for them.
A very fast runner won but with no barcode, no name or time is logged in the results.
Don't forget your barcode and in the case of two ladies who showed great camaraderie waiting for their friend, don't forget to tie your shoelaces either.
This is a photograph from the annual Donadea Running Club 5KM which was held in Donadea Forest Park, Donadea, Stapelstown, Naas, Co. Kildare, Ireland at 19:30 on Friday 25th July 2014. This forest trail race is now firmly established as one of most popular 5KM races in Co. Kildare. The course is situated completely inside the beautiful surroundings of Donadea Forest Park. The race starts and finishes in the center of the Forest close to the Lake and Cafe which is well known to visitors to the Forest. The members of Donadea Running Club, friends and the many volunteers from the local community must be given great praise for organising another fantastic night of racing for runners, joggers, and walkers. The 5KM course is a nice testing course with a mixture of surfaces, some small hills and a fast finishing section. The weather was perfect and the Forest canopy provided welcome respite for participants on what was a very very warm and humid evening. These conditions made for a great evening which was enjoyable for everyone with a large crowd gathering at the finish to cheer on participants. Over 200 people participated in the race. There was a fantastic spread of refreshments (cakes, biscuits, sandwiches and hot drinks) available in the open area close to the Cafe after the race.

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. Went for my first outdoor run of the season. They built a very nice new walking path downtown newburgh on the river. It was about 54 degrees, I cant wait for warm weather!
A co-production of my daughter Margarete (14) and me. She collected all the plates of our table (4persons) and piled them to a colorful tower ...
On one of those days that Kodachrome 64 was made for (note sarcasm), Norfolk Southern train 195 was at the corner of 19th and Poplar in Erie, Pennsylvania.
C39-8 8627 is no longer with us, and the same goes for the street running, which was eliminated in the late 1990s.
This 0800 shot was captured on September 23, 1992.
This is a photograph from the finish of the 10KM race in the 5th annual running of the Meath Spring Half Marathon and 10KM Road Races and Fun Runs which were promoted and hosted by Bohermeen Athletic Club at Bohermeen, Navan, Co. Meath, Ireland on Sunday 13th of March 2016 at 12:00. The half marathon consists of a 11KM and 10KM repeated loop around the roads of Bohermeen and Oristown. The course is a fast fair course with a few small hills. This year the course was 'reversed' which just meant that the traditional course changed to accomodate the large number of participants and the narrow country roads on which both the race participants and race traffic must both share before, during and after the race. Most runners agreed that this made the course much faster as a result. There was almost a total of 1,000 participants in both races.
The other great variable in road racing - the weather - was at its spectacular best. It was as close to perfect running conditions. Little or no breeze, around 10C temperature and clear conditions.
Bohermeen AC is steeped in Irish athletics history since 1927 and it is this experience and exceptional community spirit and volunteering which has made this event today so successful. Having now organised the event for five years running it is certain that the event will continue to grow and expand become one of the mainstays on the Irish athletic club road racing calendar for many years to come.
The race is supported by substantial local sponsorship from businesses in the local area.

Finally sprung for the Canon 135mm F2.0 L and everything I've read about it was true. I'll be having a lot of fun with this for the summer.
Minimal editing:
- No saturation boost
- No vignetting added
- Light sharpening for the web
- Small curves adjustment as I accidentally underexposed by 1/3 of a stop

This shot isn’t going to win me any awards, but it does give some indication that a hippo can certainly run if it wants to! We were in camp just getting ready to go out on our afternoon game drive, when we noticed that a hippo in the middle of what was left of the river had heaved himself up on to the sand. We didn’t give it too much attention until we saw two others between where we were standing on the bank and the one in the middle almost jump out the water. I later found out that the large bull was trying to lay claim to this patch of the drying river bed and that the other two, of which this is one, were running away scared. The speed they moved was incredible, such that I only managed a couple of quick grab shots before they became too close. The two that were running away were now just below me in the river bed. I thought I was safe as there was a good 3-4m drop down a steep muddy bank, but to my surprise they came straight up without much trouble just a few feet away,g and then charged through the camp. A close encounter with around 1500kgs of what, together with the buffalo, is regarded as one of the most dangerous animals in Africa is what a good safari is all about. It certainly set the adrenaline pumping for the afternoon drive!
