The SPAR Great Ireland Run 2013 was held in the Phoenix Park, Dublin, Ireland on Sunday 14th April 2013 at 13:10 and 13:30 respectively. The Great Ireland Run is now probably the largest 10KM running event in Ireland. The race also incorporates the AAI National 10km Championships. This category is for club athletes in Ireland only. However, there is also the main field race where anyone, regardless of being with an athletic club or not, can enter and race. The elite women and club women's race started at 13:10 whilst the male club and main field event started at 13:30. The race starts on Chesterfield Avenue and takes a clockwise route - first over to the Blackhorse Avenue sid of the park, crossing Chesterfield avenue again. The race then descends down the Kyber pass before the runners must take the challenge of the famous S-Bends on the Chapelizod side including a steep climb at 7KM. Finally the race winds its way around the Furry Glen, before finishing very close to the starting point of the race.
These photographs are taken at the 7 KM marker on Chapelizod Hill. They are from the time period 13:35 (leading elite women) until all waves have passed this point (approximately 14:42). There are no start or finish line photographs.

I really enjoyed taking these photographs. It is the first time in a long time where I have been able to photograph a race I was not participating in. It was a really great experience. Despite the tough course and the horrible head winds I got so many nods and "hellos" from hundreds of runners I knew there and from thousands of others I have yet to get to know ;-) It is a really great event.

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. Taken at the Hutton in the forest horse trials, this rider is approaching fence 4 in one of the Pre Novices events.
This shot is similar to one that I posted the other day, but with out the jumping as I was still fine tuning my panning at this point.
Red Mason Bee (Osmia bicornis) nesting activity is more-or-less over in my garden bee-hotel. You can their nest holes sealed with mud. New occupants are now moving in and I think this is one of the leafcutter bees that I've seen investigating holes.
I saw this one busy at the entrance to the hole. There were some annoying fragments around the perimeter (poor drilling on my part), and this had knocked off a lot of her carefully-collected pollen. She collected it up and then started carefully chewing off the errant bits of wood. She went all the way round until the edge was smooth!

so obviously this is a flash back of my brody he was probably about 2-3 months here xD I will add a few other running pictures in comments
Brody is doing so well in school except for heeling which from this picture you would think he would do well. He tends to drag behind cuz I think he get tired since we do it for about 30 minutes. i know I get tired so I know he must. But he is doing everything so well. Recall off leash, he almost got the finish,sit and down stay for 3-4 minutes, almost heeling off leash,quarter turns,im teaching him backing up now,oh and stand stay in a circle while people pet him xD

I took this photograph in the evening after the light had faded. The quality isn't quite ideal, but I loved the sense of movement as this Grizzly Bear went crashing through the water in pursuit of salmon. This seemed unnecessarily energetic when there were so many salmon it barely needed to do more than dip its jaws into the water to catch one. Salmon do scatter when a bear appears in the water so I suppose taking a run might catch the salmon by surprise. This was photographed on the Nekite River at Great Bear Lodge in British Columbia.
