Wadi Run desert, Jordania
Wadi Rum is a protected area covering 720 square kilometers of dramatic desert wilderness in the south of Jordan. Huge mountains of sandstone and granite emerge, sheer-sided, from wide sandy valleys to reach heights of 1700 meters and more. Narrow canyons and fissures cut deep into the mountains and many conceal ancient rock drawings etched by the peoples of the desert over millennia. Bedouin tribes still live among the mountains of Rum and their large goat-hair tents are a special feature of the landscape
To safeguard its unique desert landscape, Wadi Rum was declared a protected area in1998 and an intensive conservation programme is now underway.

A pair of GP60s, one Southern Pacific and the other a very weathered Cotton Belt, lead Conrail TV-556 through the interlocking at CP7 on the River Line. TV-556 was the train to catch at the time, due to the regular presence of run-through power off the SP. It would typically appear in North Jersey on Thursday mornings, and this day was no exception.

The city gears up for another playoff run with dreams of a second straight Super Bowl win. It's hard to believe it's already been a year in the books since my team was in the NFL playoffs. Last year's magical season was something I have been waiting for 50 years.

Stamattina mi sono svegliata con un'idea che mi ha riempito d'entusiasmo : ecco cosa mi piacerebbe : correre !! Riprendere a correre...
Correvo da ragazza, verso i 25 anni e questo mi riempiva di felicità. Ero molto veloce e mi sembrava di volare,
Correvo la sera, perché lavoravo tutto il giorno, lungo il Po, nel Valentino, a Torino, vicino a dove abitavo.
Poi una sera un brutto incontro, ho capito che era pericoloso e ho smesso.
Continuavo a correre un po' di giorno : facevo finta, da lontano, di perdere un autobus o un tram che stava partendo,, quando mi recavo al lavoro , e coglievo l'occasione per farmi una breve, intensa corsa. Un modo un po' curioso in effetti.
Ho provato a riprendere la corsa a Genova, dopo il mio trasferimento, forse dopo dieci anni. Ma ero partita 'in quarta', come una volta : dopo un po' ero senza fiato e non ho più riprovato.
Ora certamente mi allenerei a poco a poco. Ma dubito di poterlo fare e che mi faccia bene : la mia schiena è in brutte condizioni. Non ho ancora avuto il coraggio di leggere l'esito delle radiografie che ho su un mobile da più di una settimana. Le porterò da un medico.
Ci sono i sogni... e poi c'è la realtà.
