This little guy can run. I almost missed the shot. Just out of frame to the right is a stone wall. He literally jumped over this rock, bounded off the wood, and sprung to the top of the stone wall. All in a blink of an eye.
Wadi Run desert, Jordania
Wadi Rum is a protected area covering 720 square kilometers of dramatic desert wilderness in the south of Jordan. Huge mountains of sandstone and granite emerge, sheer-sided, from wide sandy valleys to reach heights of 1700 meters and more. Narrow canyons and fissures cut deep into the mountains and many conceal ancient rock drawings etched by the peoples of the desert over millennia. Bedouin tribes still live among the mountains of Rum and their large goat-hair tents are a special feature of the landscape
To safeguard its unique desert landscape, Wadi Rum was declared a protected area in1998 and an intensive conservation programme is now underway.

The last run of the Lake Country Limited was eastbound at Spring Grove on Wissor trackage. SOO 1003 was sitting in the siding waiting for the "Janesville Javelin" to pass through town for the final time.
After the final run of Amtrak 344 cleared, the SOO 1003 would pull out onto the main for an excursion to Janesville.
Wheeling’s 616 afternoon crew brings their roughly 30 car train over Sudan Viaduct as they head east to Koppers. Despite Koppers being about 36 miles from Rook Yard this run often ends up taking an entire crew, sometimes two, to turn on loads.

I was inspired by the Olympic Games and remembered this vintage miniature of this little boy ornament that I bought on the thrift store years ago. I knew it would come in handy one day. And yes, I love soccer! ⚽ ¡Gool!
Macro Mondays: #Run
The swift waters of Falls Creek make a determined run for the Columbia River Gorge and the Pacific after a series of wet spring days, Gifford Pinchot National Forest, Washington.
We ascended the creek seeking the storied Falls Creek Falls (which are oh-so-imaginatively named), and along the way I encountered several perspectives of the moss-lined riparian zone that glowed in afternoon light. Part of the purpose of the trip to the Pacific Northwest was to visit a few colleges and universities with my oldest son. Now, in a few months time he will be moving to southern California for an undergraduate education. What flies faster, water or time?

While I was out in Arizona on a non-train related vacation, I saw a Facebook post about the Grand Canyon Railway releasing an F40PH painted to celebrate the 250th year of the United States of America. As luck would have it, the innaugural run of it would line up perfectly with our drive home. Here it is departing Williams, AZ, heading to the Grand Canyon.
