Ruby Throated Hummingbird,
Taking a rest on the Fire plant
in the Picnic area of Circle B Bar
Reserve.
This little Guy is smaller than most.
I just learned that in flight a Hummingbird has a heart rate of
4000 beats a minute, and at night, while asleep, a resting
heart rate of 40 beats a minute.
Quiet an amazing Little Bird.
Circle B Bar Reserve,
Polk County, Central Florida, USA.

The little immature male hummingbird has grown up and now guards "his" feeder all day long. He sits on my clothesline and waits for another hummer to show up and then he yells at them and chases them off. I think the female just likes to antagonize him - she always flies up into his space but usually doesn't even try to drink at the feeder.
Will the sun ever come back out again?

(Archilochus colubris) The only hummingbird that has a natural range in Vermont. These are my first in my lifetime hummingbird photos and wouldn't you know it? That hair is on the glass!!!
I walked into this small wooded meadow at Broughtons Wildlife Education Area near Marietta Ohio were a trio or more of Ruby Throated Hummingbirds were busy feeding on pale or Yellow Touch Me Nots
The end of April and into May are an exciting time for watching the birds in my corner of Southeast Ohio as many of the seasonal migrants some from as far away as South America begin to return or pass through my area. This set documents some of these beautiful visitors, as well as a few of the beloved regular non migrators that I have had the fortune to see in late April to now early May
The hummers are finally back, and I had my pocket camera where it belongs for a change... in my pocket. This guy leaves the feeder earlier than he wanted to because he noticed another hummingbird coming. (They chase each other) If you look closely you can see one, and then the other zip by in the background.
