All day long this little hummingbird guards the feeder..Come close to it and swoosh he's after you! I could watch them for hours!
Got this one in the tree close to the feeders.
He would wait for the others to come in for a drink and go on the attack. Fun to watch !!
She does - and it's delightful to hear her string of bubbly chirps as she closes in on the feeder. She makes me smile.
There are many flowers that the hummers love, too, but much harder to site... especially when I'm not moving around.
The hummingbirds appear to be done breeding and are now spending lots of time feeding in our Hummingbird and Butterfly garden. Captured this Ruby-throated relaxing in the apple tree.
Wet from a heavy downpour of rain, this little hummingbird preens and tries to dry during the tailing drizzle of the passing shower. Every activity of a hummingbird seems to be done frenetically, contradictory to the peaceful sound of rain as a backdrop.

This bird is a young male.
Our hosts at a Sunday lunch have good set of hummingbird feeders. After taking the group photo I changed lenses. I had not intended to not use the full 300 mm reach of my lens - it was a matter of not fully rotating the zoom collar. I bumped the ISP to 800 for a fast shutter speed in hopes of catching one in flight but these guys are too fast.
