Not the greatest photo as we were dealing with a crossroads but at least it allowed me to dawdle long enough for Mrs SL to grab a quick photo. I can't recall seeing a Montego in France in recent years, although other Rovers like the 200-series seem to have been popular enough. Black plates were a nice bonus.
Before seeing this I was mildly disappointed to have missed out on an aero-shape Audi 100 and Golf Mk1 5dr, but had I stopped for them then I wouldn't have seen this so it all worked out OK......
Al the way from France! The driver's brave to drive this to Greece, kudos to her! This is the first 1st gen 800 I've spotted. Funnily enough I missed a red Rover 213 on French plates a few weeks ago

Another car that's quietly disappearing. Only 55k on this at last test, which it initially failed on rot underneath.

During the month of Febrovery, sales of new rover tires spike dramatically. As the rover tire market is highly competitive, new and returning customers are highly sought and competition is fierce. Tire retailer GodtYear contracted with Sirius Cyberdine Industries to develop this joint advertising tool and sales spotter, the RD3658 lookout tower rover. Only the best, most experienced salesmen were given the privilege of manning the lookout tower rover, and as commissions were given to the first person to spot the potential customer, it was considered quite an honor to man the high seat. At the top of the tower are a full communications array, personal stereo, and wine-glass-and-bottle holder. Once a customer was spotted, the operator would then radio down to his personal ground sales team to accost the customer and make the sale. Again due to the highly competitive nature of rover tire sales, the sales crews would often become gangs of sorts who would use the lookout tower rovers to raid competing tire shops and steal customer lists.
