Riding through the viaduct under the Ogilvie Transportation Center's Metra tracks. These lanes are well channelized and this is a bus only lane which is good for cyclists because the barriers here in combination with vehicle traffic would make it dangerous.

Ludlow, CA is the town that refused to die. The town's growth was assured in the late 1880's due to it's proximity to the railroad and to a significant ore deposit. When the decline of both the mine and the railways occured in the 1940's, the town simply up and moved north a block -settling itself firmly on Route 66 and catering to travelers.
When Interstate 40 was built, Route 66 died, so residents picked up and moved north another block to meet the Interstate.
"New" Ludlow in I-40 survives due to the Interstate. Older Ludlow buildings along Route 66 are being reclaimed by the Mojave Desert.
First Chester Route 1 in Liverpool. Notice the tell tale signs this was once a First Hampshire & Dorset Bus! Look either side of the blind display and you will see a speech bubble shaped into a fossil containing the words 'Every 2 Hours' as part of the route branding for Route X53 Exeter-Pool. Here it is seen some distance from the original route which now boasts new Volvo Wrightbus B9TL Gemini's.
The usual heavy traffic is not present. Looking south on State Route 43 just after crossing Mogadore Reservoir by the boathouse and dock.
Couldn't get to Route 66 in USA, so went on a little trip of my own along the A66.
Highlighting the continuous invasion and reshaping of our countryside.
Rockfield / Route 66 Bridge over the Mojave River. The bridge was built in 1930. The truss portion and the piers are angled, giving the bridge an unusual appearance. For additional photos, see California Desert album on Ipernity: www.ipernity.com/doc/donbrr/album/384737
