Driving Route 66
Yet another old abandoned travel station. I wonder what happened to all these places. It looks like the owners just left and nobody ever took care of it until it eventually collapsed.
I traveled Route 66 between the Kansas/Oklahoma state line and Oklahoma City. Equipped with a 1961 Road Map and a GPS, i am trying to find the remains of old Route 66
Oct. 16, 2021: "Big Tex-Rex" statue outside of The Big Texan Steak Ranch in Amarillo is dedicated to Route 66. In 1960, the restaurant opened on Route 66. In 1970, Interstate 40 bypassed Route 66 in the Amarillo area. The steak house relocated to a new site near the Interstate. Family members commissioned "Big Tex-Rex" after visiting Route 66 attractions with dinosaurs.

I love this funky resturant in Bar Harbor and always try to stop for lunch at least once when I am here. The owner bought the remains of a church that had burned down nearby and brought the stained glass windows and the pew, to use as booths! He filled it with his antique collection and called it "Route 66."
Best steak and cheese subs in town!
