This is a hood ornament on the DeSoto Custom Suburban at Wigwam Motel in Holbrook.

Route 66 was the main street through Holbrook. The historical Wigwam Motel greets travelers as they enter from the west. It is on the National Register of Historic Places

The Wigwam Motel in Holbrook, Arizona is a place of whimsy and Americana, a throwback to the golden age of roadside motels. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Wigwam Motel in Holbrook is one of only three surviving "Wigwam Villages" in the US and one of two situated on Route 66 (the other being in Rialto, CA).

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DeSoto_Suburban

The DeSoto Suburban is an automobile produced by DeSoto from 1946 through the 1954 model year. The Suburban was a continuation of DeSoto's long-wheelbase models, first introduced in 1946.

While in production, the Suburban was available under the DeSoto Deluxe, Custom and Powermaster model designations.

The Suburban differed from other DeSotos in that the four-door sedan rode a 139.5 in (3,543 mm) wheelbase, creating a car which was capable of carrying eight passengers as shipped from the factory. The car accomplished this eight-passenger capacity through the use of factory-installed jump seats. Suburbans were powered by Chrysler's inline six-cylinder engine, which delivered sufficient power to move the factory-complete car; at nearly two tons, the vehicle mated to this engine was capable of cruising speeds, but not jack-rabbit starts.

Most Suburbans were shipped with an optional rooftop luggage rack. With no station wagon in its line-up, the Suburban was at once a car for consumers who needed a large-capacity automobile, and a car almost ready-built for the taxi cab industry.

The Suburban also formed the base car for DeSoto's Custom Limousine model, an automobile rarely built on speculation, but more realistically upon customer orders. DeSoto dropped its limo build-outs at the end of the 1949 model year, finding it cheaper to sell and ship the cars to third-party vendors for customization.

With the fog lifted and a little under two miles on the river under our belt, a stop at the railway's Spanish River crossing just west of the small hamlet of Sheahan for the Budds was in order. The Spanish River was an important route historically, at Lake Pogamasing just around the corner from here one of the larger Hudson's Bay Company trading posts was established in 1869 for fur trading and its strategic location in competition with the North West Company. Ultimately it was the building of the CPR that led to the demise of the fur trading, but the railway opened up the area for logging with several companies operating here from 1891 to the 1930s with even a mill popping up towards the end of that time. Birch now line the river banks, typically a place with sandy soil that old growth white pine thrive in, but those were profitable, low hanging fruit for logging operations. Birch of course is thin and spindly making it almost useless for lumber, and grows like wildfire if left unattended. The colourful and rugged terrain provides a picturesque backdrop for VIA’s #186 as it glides east across the river with its trusty trio of RDCs, a meet with 119 at Pog next up on deck - MP 23.26 CPKC Nemegos Sub.

I got this wild hair while coming into Tucumcari. This is Part II, Part I is coming, still in final edit. many of the icons are visible, but I shot too wide. Anyway, here it is for Friday fun.

There is a lot of blank space now. Looks like most of the old gas stations are gone and motels keep disappearing.
