The Mother Road, historic Route 66, used to run through Petrified Forest National Park, paralleling the line of telephone poles. This stretch was open from 1926 until 1958 and was the primary way millions of travelers experience the National Park. Now, a rusted out 1932 Studebaker, the grill of a 1958 sedan, and a sign mark its memory. The I-40 Interstate Highway runs through the park a quarter of a mile south of it.

Route 66 Motel in Barstow, California. Located on historic Route 66, with round beds and a collection of vintage cars, the Route 66 Motel offers Priceline guests a fun blast of nostalgia along with modern amenities such as free Wi-Fi and satellite TV.
Hotel Features
Although it's classic Route 66 on the outside — down to the neon sign — this two-story motel is updated on the inside, with free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, movie channels and a microwave and mini-fridge in all rooms, some non-smoking. Route 66 aficionados get a thrill from the motel's collection of antique cars and other memorabilia from the glory days of America's Mother Road. Parking is free, and pets are allowed for an additional charge.
A Marilyn Monroe statue stands along old Route 66 on 15 June 2007 in Rancho Cucamonga, California. Route 66 opened in 1926 to become an icon of American motoring freedom. It stretched from Chicago to Los Angeles and became a western migration route for people looking for work during the great depression of the 1930s or to escape the Dust Bowl disaster. Later it offered vacation getaways and driving adventures until 1985 when it was decommissioned as a federal highway. Today the motels, gas stations, and roadside attractions along the "Mother Road" are disappearing at an alarming rate. Route 66 aficionados try to preserve some reminders of the by-gone era – restoring some buildings, collecting memorabilia, and erecting thousands of new signs that read "Route 66" - but most of the old landmarks are already in a state of decay or destroyed by vandals and neglect. Freeways, modern hotel chains, developer's projects, and even tourist attractions are blotting out the original reminders of the highway that inspired countless movies, books, and songs about life on the Western highway. Last week the National Trust for Historic Preservation included the old motels of Route 66 on its list of the 11 most endangered historic places. February 28 - My dream photography trip is traveling down old Route 66. I bought this encyclopedia on Route 66 to start planning the trip. Next part of the plan is putting away the money and make time to take the trip.
Vermont Route 22A is a state highway in western Vermont, United States. It is the northward continuation of New York State Route 22A. Its southern end is at the New York state line in Fair Haven and its northern end is in Ferrisburgh at U.S. Route 7. As it is an extension of NY 22A, VT 22A is a spur route of NY 22, which runs roughly parallel to VT 22A west of the state border. This is a rather unusual case of one state having a suffixed route of another state's primary route. Vermont does not currently have a "Route 22."
