Castleton-Lyons Farm, Lexington, Fayette County, Kentucky

Farm owner, Dr. Tony Ryan, had this round tower built in 2003 to remind him of his native Ireland. The tower is an exact replica of the ancient round tower at the Rock of Cashel in County Tipperary, Ireland. Constructed with fieldstone from the land on which it stands, the tower is 124.5 feet tall. At night the tower is illuminated and quite a beautiful sight. On St. Patrick's Day, the tower is bathed in green light.

The 34 foot high ruin of a Round Tower with round-headed doorway is all that remains of a old monastery founded here in the 6th century which was burned in 1094. The church is said to have been built in 1609, but may be earlier. It has an intact east window and partially preserved barrel-vaulting.

For the most part, the quarter eagles from the 1860's are rare to very rare in higher grades. Yet they are an affordable group of coins that offer the collector excellent overall value.

The 1860-S is a tough issue in the higher AU grades and this "slider" is one of the nicer AU58's of this date that I can recall having seen. This original piece has nearly full mint luster and just a small luster break in the left obverse field. The surfaces, which show nice green-gold and orange color, are lightly marked and this piece is nicer than others that I've seen in MS61 holders.

A small curvy line to the left of the first A in AMERICA is mint-made and hard to see without 5x magnification.
