A bridge can be a symbol for many things but I see it as a symbol of transition, a crossing from one way of life to another. That’s probably why I started some very important photo albums / scrapbooks with bridges (see below).

This picture shows the Benjamin Franklin Bridge at sunrise as seen out of our hotel room window.

As I described in my last post the Ben Franklin Bridge is a suspension bridge across the Delaware River connecting Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Camden, New Jersey. At its completion in 1926 its 533-metre span made it the world’s largest suspension bridge span.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

National Geographic Quest adventure tours docked at Ogden Point.

Welcome says the small sign on the pillar at the entrance, so went in to see how welcome I was.... but only found a room with two views, a horizontal and a vertical view.

I took this from my hotel room at the Grand Hyatt in Seoul. I managed to make myself roll out of bed and catch this beautiful sunrise. This is four shots stitched together in Photoshop into a Panorama.

Passengers on Northern's 11.40 Manchester Airport - Liverpool Lime St (1F96) service get to admire the local architecture as it rounds the curve out of Deansgate station with an unidentified class 319 doing the honours.

The YHA has clearly moved with the times with its rather fancy quarters ..... the days of bunk-beds, dormitories, and a job of mopping the place out, all for a couple of quid overnight stay, seemingly a distant memory.

Taken from the splendid suspension footbridge over the Rochdale canal, which has a disconcerting habit of going up and down when several folks are on it.

Temporarily bathed in sunlight, the 10.44 New Biggin British Gypsum - Hull Coal Terminal (6E95), hauled by DB Shed 66011, traverses the lower slopes of Dent Fell with another mile or so to go before it enters the northern portal of Blea Moor Tunnel.

The building in shade "at 10 o'clock" beyond the last wagon is Dent Station, and the high hill at the top of the frame, also in shade, is Baugh Fell (676m) - the line curves around at Dent station and runs to the East of this.

Aside from the fine stone barn in the foreground (seemingly a feature of most enclosures in these parts) the beginning of Arten Gill Viaduct can be seen at lower left. Keen eyed folk will also spot the orange-clad track worker raising an arm in response to a toot of the horn from the driver.

Blood sunrise over Seoul, taken from my hotel room at the Grand Hyatt Seoul. I was scheduled to come back from my travels last week but because of the snow which hit New York I was stuck at my layover city of Seoul South Korea for a few days. I love to travel so this was a perfect excuse to explore. Unfortunately it was during one of the worst cold snaps they've had there in 5 years! -15 degrees centigrade!

Taken at the Geelong Carousel, shot in Raw. 3 images, 1&1/3 stops over and under.

I don’t need big adventures.

I need morning routines and memories and a little bit of familiarity in the unknown. I need slow moments and tea and comfortable clothes. I need time to think and grasp and to be alone as much as shared moments by the fire.

I don’t need big adventures. I just need all of the little things.

I recently spent a week in the Auvergne in France and it was one of my favourite holidays I’ve been on. The people I was with were easygoing, everyone did their own thing every now and then, the countryside made me feel so calm, and I especially enjoyed all the little moments and daily routines.

Now I’ve traded my black feathers for a crown

So feed me milk & honey

Let’s disappear and we’ll hide underground

We’ll get high and we’ll feel safe & sound

Happy Caturday πŸ€”

β€œI have always thought of Christmastime when it has come round...as a good time"πŸŽ„πŸΎ

But, Christmas can have all things, both good and bad, mixed in; it is not exempt from the rest of the days of the year.

The loss of a dear pet, our church cat, Karson, on December 23rd, a day before Christmas Eve, was quite sad, still today and for some time to come for sure. Then Christmas Night was yet another challenge: I may share it later with you.

It all depends on how we look at the situation. I try always to keep positive, although sometimes it's not so easy.

I look at Maggie looking out the window, alone, with no Christmas tree, somewhat a little sad, watching for Karson to come home, or is she just looking at the birds feeding at the feeder. Bat looking at me, thinking? Me thinking? We all have a different view from where we stand or sit.

A pretty wooden windmill on the banks of the River Bure in Horning. The statutory Heron can be seen in the garden when viewed large.

Taken on the 02/05/2021 at 15:20:35Hrs using a Panosonic Lumix DMC FZ1000 camera, from mid-river.

Horning is a picturesque waterside broadland village. The village lines the northern bank of the River Bure, stretching for about a mile, and has many waterside properties (best viewed from a boat), the windmill being one of many.

Update October 16, 2025 4th place winner.

The old window offers the right setting for the vast view of the valley and looks like in B&W dating back to the last century.

This is on Monte Veloso on the island of Fuerteventura. From the elevated point you can overlook half the island and grasp the beauty of the barren landscape.

The view is breathtaking. In my eyes that was even more so if framed by the huge window. The inside also protects you from the very strong wind that gave the island its name.

β€œThe ornament of a house is the friends who frequent it.”

A couple of cute kitty cats are purrfect to cheer up a sickly fellow. On the other hand, not so sure Bat and Maggie were thrilled by their unexpected journey away from their home sweet home. After all that has transpired in the last week, they might be questioning why all the changes around them. A little afraid of being uprooted from home, I would imagine.

Trivia: one of the last shots from the Sigma DP-1 that died on a visit to Ostia Antica a few days later. Owned this small camera for twelve years. Even with all its flaws (e.g. the limited range of workable ISO), its Foveon sensor delivered images of exceptional colour. And unlike its successors in the DP line, it is pocketable. RIP.
