I stumbled upon a really nice way of dealing with duo tones starting with layers sample colorized from several different quadtone tints. It leads to a very complex, subtle, and beautiful B&W color palette. In one of the lays I add a bit of gaussian blur, but I work to make it smooth and not too overbearing.
I am also working on an idea based on the "Steampunk" Victorian era parallel histories. We have enough materials near where I live that I think I could come up with a rather interesting set of images. Steampunk. Cool.
These were shot originally to film (Mamiya RZ, various lenses, Kodak TMax100, Rodinal 75:1), scanned (Nikon 8000ED), and then manipulated in the Gimp.
Into the forest…
Took another swing at this and of the four sheets, these came out best. I think the others might be my first experience with reciprocity failure…

Following up on the attempt to make more of this scene, I dragged my 4x5 out for some exercise. Looks like I have a light leak though it might be a lensboard issue, as it seems not to have happened when I changed lenses. The larger views are with a Schneider 90mm and the one that seems to move on its own was with a Schneider 180. Bottom right is a crop from bottom left. The others are full frame.

Trying out a Vivatar 283 flash found at a yard sale. It seems to be doing it''s thing properly after a bit of cleanup. The darkness of the gray soundproofing is correct in the image.. The Fomapan 200/Rodinal combo captured the detail extremely well I think.
Shot with the Iskra Russian medium format folder (1962 vintage). Industar-58 75mm lens. Vivitar 283 flash in automatic mode.
