I was going to go backpacking to visit the Tubal Cain Mine, Buckhorn Lake and Pass, as well as the plane wreck on the trail but due to chances of thunderstoms in the area the group had to cancel the hike.
I had packed my backpack and camping gear and was so ready to leave right after work too.
Being bummed about the rescheduled hike, I was getting an itch to head out around 8:15PM when I noticed such a beautiful sunset out my window...
I grabbed the camera and tripod and rushed out driving for destination unknown.
On my way, I decided to stop by Best Buy real quick to see if they had any tripods that I might want to pick up for the hike as the tripod I have right now is wonderful but pretty heavy.
What luck, I found a nice light carbon tripod by Rocketfish for $39 bucks! It was a returned tripod but it looked good and the weight is a mere 2.89 pounds!
Feeling good about the purchase, I felt a hankering to visit the Saltwater State Park.
It was closed as the park closes at dusk. I waited outside trying to find a park ranger to see if I could get permission to just shoot some quick long exposures but no one showed up.
I decided to drive down the park as the campsite is open and I figured a park ranger would probably be near.
As soon as I got down towards the campsite, the park ranger appeared and told me I had to leave.
Bummed about getting kicked out, as I was seeing some great lightning from the beach, I decided to head to Redondo as it was near by.
As I was taking some picts and getting ready to take some lightning shots a fellow photog came by with the same idea. He told me that the night before was a lot better for the lightning shots.
As I was getting ready for setup to take the shots of the lightning, I realized I didn't bring my shutter release cord as it was still packed up in my backback for the hike!!!
I set it up for mirror up mode and hoped for the best. I got some decent picts but a shutter release would have helped me so much more.
Soon after, another photog came by to take shots of the lightning as well. She set hers up to take shots every second which worked for her pretty well, compared to me, where I decided to take long exposure shots of 30 secs as I felt that was a better setting fo me and I could save my card from running out of memmory.
All in all, it was a great night till the rain started and I decided to call it a night.
