A Robin sitting on top of the Avebury topiary and he did not mind me creeping up on him at all.

Robin 'Erithacus rubecula'

The UK's favourite bird - with its bright red breast it is familar throughout the year and especially at Christmas! Males and females look identical, and young birds have no red breast and are spotted with golden brown. Robins sing nearly all year round and despite their cute appearance, they are aggressively territorial and are quick to drive away intruders. They will sing at night next to street lights.

just another robin.

The American robin (Turdus migratorius) is a migratory songbird of the thrush family. It is named after the European robin because of its reddish-orange breast, though the two species are not closely related, with the European robin belonging to the Old World flycatcher family. The American robin is widely distributed throughout North America, wintering from southern Canada to central Mexico and along the Pacific Coast.

Still Britain's favourite garden bird...

Success at last!! For years I have tried to photograph a Robin with absolutely no success. Yesterday my friend and I went to a local place, Sarehole Mill, where J R R Tolkien used to play as a boy and which in part inspired his writing of The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings, only to find it is not open to the public until 9th April but it is next to The River Cole and somewhere to walk so the trip was not wasted. I spotted this Robin and got one click before if flew away :-) Perhaps I should have titled this 'One Click Robbie' :-)
