To Hindus, Varanasi is known simply as Kashi, City of Divine Light. One of the holiest of the religion’s seven sacred cities and as old as Babylon, it is at the core of Hindu faith, culture, and studies. Every day here begins and ends on the Ganges with a prayer ritual call puja.

It seems a little unseemly to participate in social media without posting recent cat pictures. So in regular, ritual obeisance I post this of Minnie, my most willing model, now just passing her eleventh birthday.

Most Sundays, I like to sneak quietly down to the workshop, pop up the roller-door a few feet without turning on the lights and just make sure all is well!

The Stellar Horns are decorated horns that come in two styles

one of the joyous thing about living in Thailand is you get to witness this awesome ritual every morning. people offering alms to monks and seeking their blessing before they go about their work. I love it .

Every morning at sunrise I could step outside my hotel room onto the balcony and watch the race horses from Garrison Savannah Racetrack swim in the ocean at Carlisle Bay.

I took hundreds of photos of this ritual so that I may always remember the gorgeous horseflesh and (you know me), also the beautiful men. I love the way the horses and the men here are the same rich color and sheen.

The Ritual of Jing

Allofeeding is a mating ritual that can be seen a lot with bluejays.

This might be to "test" the male's ability to forage and provide for young. It also helps the female by providing her with extra food. I wonder if this female thinks the male is a "cheater" since he is getting nuts right out of my feeder!

In a coldest, dark night on the top of a mountain, the old ritual of the burning witch is repeated again. The wise old men would try to predict the fate of the new year according to the way is burns and where the smoke goes.

I just felt speechless when I imagined the glowing smoke as the runaway soul of the ancient fears of the unknown.

Hello all my flickr friends and strangers,

Wikipedia says "Rainmaking is an ethnographic term for rituals intended to invoke rain. Among the most well known examples of rainmaking rituals are North American rain dances, historically performed by many Native American tribes." I may add that indeed the rain dances and invocations are even present in our Slavic Ukrainian traditions - they are present in our folklore and were usually performed by men.

This is another shot with Taras , somebody pretty close to being perfect. While we were doing some portfolio shots it suddenly started raining and we had to somewhat improvise. Half of the photos were ruined because of the rain, I had my had and camera covered with my coat, nevertheless I continued shooting :) Although there is pretty much no extreme manipulation I loved the mystic feel this shot had.

The only thing I regret is that we did not do the planned costume shot because of the rain - I had a custom made Plague doctor mask - so we will have to have another shoot with Taras before the cold Ukrainian autumn makes it impossible :)
