Bonding Ritual?
Even though I could not see a nest or chicks, I watched this pair of Black-necked Stilts very aggressively defending a small island at Bombay Hook NWR. If shorebirds landed close by one would fly off to chase them away, if a gull or Osprey got too close both would chase it away.
Besides this, on two or three occasions when there was no intruder, the pair flew up almost vertically close together, calling loudly then glided back to the island. I am speculating that this interesting behavior might perhaps be a bonding ritual.

Good Sunday morning everyone, and hope a great day and weekend was and will be had by all.
After taking what was many many images of this entire encounter, I think that the courtship was the most tender of the behavior. With the nestling and touching of the beaks and bodies it was by far beautiful.
