The start of most every day for me....

Some planning and luck came together for this single exposure taken at the Pemigewasset Overlook on the Kancamagus Highway in the White Mountains. We had a good time setting up lots of tealights as the Milky Way moved into position above the gazebo.

We won't say what the ritual is. Everyone can imagine. Even the spectators gathered around the actor/author of this ritual are mostly unaware of what they are about to witness. The movements are slow and controlled. The use of props is essential, and their choice may have surprised most of the audience. Like the pink protective gloves used by all those who clean their kitchen or bathroom. The gestures are not without danger for the spectators, who are also voyeurs. The performance lasts only a few seconds. There has been one incident that evening. A teenager will be hit by black paint chips. And perhaps by grace.

Walking the dog on the sandhills of North Curl Curl beach, Sydney, a ritual for many local residents (and their dogs!).

My first trip to the world famous Calanais Standing Stones on the beautiful Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides, Scotland. I've been wanting to make the trip for a couple of years now and finally I made it.

The stones are arranged in a cruciform pattern with a central stone circle for ritual activity dated back to the Bronze age and actually older than Stonehenge in England.

I wasn't intending to shoot the mausoleum at Blickling but stumbled across it while wandering through the woods and its pretty hard to resist when you find a pyramid in Norfolk.

Lions do not mate at a specific time of year and the females are polyestrous. Like those of other cats, the male lion's penis has spines that point backward. During withdrawal of the penis, the spines rake the walls of the female's vagina, which may cause ovulation. A lioness may mate with more than one male when she is in heat. They normally mate after every 15-20 minutes for 2-3 days whilst on their honeymoon. The average gestation period is around 110 days; the female gives birth to a litter of between one and four cubs in a secluded den, which may be a thicket, a reed-bed, a cave, or some other sheltered area, usually away from the pride.
