Ring-billed Gull (Larus delawarensis) waiting out a snowstorm on the frozen urban pond in Hawrelak Park in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

It was a noteworthy bird as it had a tinge of rose colour in the white feathers which is not normal for the species although it is the breeding season.

The male Ring-necked Duck is a sharply marked bird of gleaming black, gray, and white. Females are rich brown with a delicate face pattern. At distance, look for this species’ distinctive, peaked head to help you identify it. Even though this species dives for its food, you can find it in shallow wetlands such as beaver swamps, ponds, and bays. Of all the diving duck species, the Ring-necked Duck is most likely to drop into small ponds during migration.

The Ring of Brodgar is a Neolithic henge and stone circle in Mainland, Orkney, Scotland. It is the only major henge and stone circle in Britain which is an almost perfect circle. Most henges do not contain stone circles; Brodgar is a striking exception, ranking with Avebury and Stonehenge among the greatest of such sites.

Probably a young female or juvenile. I love them. She had no others with her?

Male.

Species: Cordulegaster boltonii.

A voracious predator that will even eat other dragonflies, the Golden-ringed Dragonfly is the UK's longest species. It can be found around acidic streams in moorland and heathland habitats. Info: The Wildlife Trusts.

Many thanks to people who view or comment on my photos.

On May 3rd I started my day at the two ponds closest to my home. It was fun to watch the grebes building a nest.

Red-winged Blackbird males are putting on quite the displays right now.

It was very nice to see a Ring-necked Duck too!

Thanks for your visits and comments! They are all greatly appreciated!

Ringed Plover out ahead.

Taken in Norfolk.

This tiny ring barely fits on my little finger. It once belonged to my great great grand mother, Elizabeth Phillips Caples. Her daughter Emma Caples Moree gave it to my mother, who kept it a tiny ring box no more than an inch high. On a small piece of folded paper in the trunk’s lid, Emma had written a note: “for Anna Elisabeth Sherwood the ring worn by her great grandmother Caples.” When I examined my photograph of the ring, I saw an inscription I hadn’t noticed before. It seemed the ring must have belonged to Emma’s aunt Amanda, not her mother, for the name inscribed was not Elizabeth but Amanda. Another of life’s unsolvable mysteries.

One of my favourite compositions at Ringing Roger. I always imagine the eroded rock lit by the sun against a dark sky. But happy with the mix of colours from the warm sun on the frosted landscape.

We had such a magic morning with these little beauties a few weeks ago and were hopeful to see some chicks soon. But then the rain came and the water levels started to rise. Now all islands are flooded and the birds are gone...

Many thanks to all who take the time to view, comment and fave my images. Enjoy the day.

Kind of an abstract / still life, you be the judge. I liked the shadows so I just put a tilt on it.

Ringed Plover on the mud flats of Lindisfarne

A child peers nervously from the basket of The Liberty Bell hot air balloon as the burners create a glowing ring of fiery light around the envelope during an early morning Balloon Stampede launch in Walla Walla, Washington.

A ringed plover at Slimbridge Wetlands Centre.

A ringed plover in a sand bank in the middle of the Rhine river. Great to see them to still be here despite all the urbanization. Unfortunately, 400mm is a bit short, so I had to use a 1.4TC.

The ring-tailed lemur is a large strepsirrhine primate and the most recognized lemur due to its long, black and white ringed tail. It belongs to Lemuridae, one of five lemur families, and is the only member of the Lemur genus. Like all lemurs it is endemic to the island of Madagascar and endangered. (Wiki 6/3/2023).
