The ringed kingfisher (Megaceryle torquata) is a large, conspicuous kingfisher. The Ringed Kingfisher feeds primarily on fish. But it also takes reptiles, amphibians, crustaceans and insects.

The little ringed plover (Charadrius dubius) is a small plover. The genus name Charadrius is a Late Latin word for a yellowish bird mentioned in the fourth-century Vulgate.

Never saw one perched off the ground. The hunters were out in the fields. Think the birds know if they get to the gates, they are safe.
I saw this group of Ring-necked ducks at Commonwealth Lake yesterday. I had heard that some folks have seen a golden eye there; although I didn't see it, I was happy to see these!
There seem to be good numbers of Ring Ouzels around this year in the usual places around the Derbyshire edges. I took this image near Burbage earlier today.
The old cash register at Vulture City's last filling station hasn't had a sale in 80+ years as the towns mines were closed during WWII. President Roosevelt shut all none essential mines to concentrate on the war effort. This was basically the end for the fading, isolated town. Mining has started again at the sight, the towns new owners have had to work fast to save as much as they can of the historic property before its gone forever....

I spent a happy hour or so photographing small waders on the shores of Thornham Point, Norfolk, over the weekend. The best technique seemed to be to find a likely spot just above the line of the outgoing tide, lie on the wet sand and wait for them to come to me.
I don't usually photograph the Gulls but this one was so close and posing quit well so I fired off a quick shot.
