The ringed kingfisher (Megaceryle torquata) is a large, conspicuous kingfisher. The Ringed Kingfisher feeds primarily on fish. But it also takes reptiles, amphibians, crustaceans and insects.

The little ringed plover (Charadrius dubius) is a small plover. The genus name Charadrius is a Late Latin word for a yellowish bird mentioned in the fourth-century Vulgate.

I saw this group of Ring-necked ducks at Commonwealth Lake yesterday. I had heard that some folks have seen a golden eye there; although I didn't see it, I was happy to see these!

Seven - James

"Ring, ring the bells

wake the town

everyone is sleeping

shout at the crowd

wake them up

this anger is deeper than sleep

Got to keep awake to what is happen

I can't see a thing through my ambition

I no longer feel my God is watching over me

Got to tell the world we've all been dreaming

This is not the end, a new beginning

I new longer feel my God is watching

Break, break the code

Concentrate,

let the door swing open

See, through all my walls

All my floors, now I'm in deeper than sleep

When you let me fly,

grew my own wings,

now I'm tall as the sky

When you let my drown

grew gills and fins

Now I am as deep as the sea

When, you let my die,

my spirits free

There's nothing challenging me"

My first migratory duck shot of the season - always exciting.

The storm water ponds and lakes in parks and neighborhoods here are the first to open up and provide a landing place for the early arriving migrating waterfowl giving them a place to rest and feed before the melt of the natural lakes in this area and farther north.

Ring-necked duck (Male)

There seem to be good numbers of Ring Ouzels around this year in the usual places around the Derbyshire edges. I took this image near Burbage earlier today.

Thanks for looking!!

The old cash register at Vulture City's last filling station hasn't had a sale in 80+ years as the towns mines were closed during WWII. President Roosevelt shut all none essential mines to concentrate on the war effort. This was basically the end for the fading, isolated town. Mining has started again at the sight, the towns new owners have had to work fast to save as much as they can of the historic property before its gone forever....

I was lucky to see the UK's only naturalised parrot - The Ring-necked parakeet, he was popping in and out of a whole in the tree. Apparently they became established in the wild in the 1970's after a captive birds escaped or were released.
