Extremely common Gull. Regardless, I thought the golden glow of the hour made for a very nice image here.

昨日は明治神宮へ行って来ました。

今日からは緊急事態宣言で公園は閉鎖、春の公園を楽しむことが出来るのは今日が最後になるかも...

そんなことを考えながら御苑南池でアメンボを撮影。

I went to Meiji Jingu yesterday.

Starting today, all parks are closed due to a state of emergency. So I thought today might be the last day in spring when everyone can enjoy the park.

With that in mind, I took pictures of a water strider at Gyoen Minamiike.

I was kept it in a closed box for over 20 years, but it was so dusty and dirty that I washed it longer than I took pictures of it.

HSoS!

And the fantastic winter weather just keeps on giving. From the high tide roost in Bangor. Super high tides even though they are almost neaps and the pressure is high. I think because the pressure is even higher down in the mid Atlantic. It makes everything just beautiful looking.

Juvenile.

Species: Charadrius dubius.

Location: Greece.

The little ringed plover is a small plover with a distinctive black and white head pattern, similar to the ringed plover. It has a black beak and pale legs. Close views reveal a distinctive yellow eye-ring. In flight, it shows a plain brown wing without the white wingbar that ringed plover has.

Many thanks to people who view or comment on my photos.

What a glorious afternoon! I was prevaricating about heading out - that wind! - but then I thought: You can't take pictures if you don't show up.

The Ringed Kingfisher is the largest kingfisher in the Americas. Its heavy, pale-based bill, disheveled crest, blue-gray plumage, white collar, and red belly are visible and recognizable even at a distance. Ringed Kingfishers are often conspicuous, searching shallow water for fish from a prominent perch and chattering noisily when disturbed. Singles or pairs are also often observed flying high overhead and giving loud "keck!" contact calls. Like other kingfishers, the Ringed nests in burrows excavated in banks, generally along watercourses. This species occurs in areas with shallow water throughout the Neotropics south to Tierra del Fuego.

The girls are certainly to a manner born. i recently traced their pedigrees back to pre-1900. They come from a long line of show Poodles. If I didn't know better, I'd guess that they were whelped on a grooming table!

Thanks for your visit, faves and/or comments.

These rings, designed and created by Xavier Karsin, are not just rings. They are generosity, love, sacrifice and patience beyond measure.

Always my more-than.

Taylor Park, St Helens.

(A look back at some summer flowers I neglected to post.)

Shooting star flowers are unique with their beautiful reflexed petals and vibrant colors with their magenta petals and white and yellow rings with a squiggly red ring at the base. This ring has always intrigued me- is it some kind of guide for pollinators (mostly bumblebees) who “buzz” pollinate the flowers (vibration releases pollen)? Ecologists and evolutionary biologists often assume, rightly so, that markings like this have a benefit to the organism. Whether we ever understand it fully is uncertain though- sometimes I’m just content to enjoy them purely for their aesthetic value.

Shooting stars have a wide geographic distribution- this species (Primula pauciflora/ Dodecathron pulchellum) occurs throughout western North America from Mexico to Alaska, usually in moist habitats from near sea level in the northern part of the range to over 11,000 feet / 3300 m in the southern Rocky Mountains.

The "old" genus name “Dodecatheon” was bestowed by the Roman naturalist Pliny (61-113), who delighted in the flowers and believed they were protected by the 12 Roman gods.

Many thanks to those who comment on my photo's and/or add them as favourites.
