7/1971 -- A desert freeway rest area along I-10 near Blythe, CA.
That was Bradley's first reaction when I showed him this picture, taken at a rest area on the way home from Kellogg.
5¼ miles southeast was the town of Nickajack or Anikusatiyi, destroyed by Ore's force, Sept 14, 1794. The town occupied a space between the river and the care in which was a storehouse for plunder. It was also used by the Confederacy during the War Between the States as a source of saltpeter.

This marker was knocked off the post, with post lying on the ground next to it.
In a valley north of Essex, California, there is an extended field of black volcanic rock scattered over several miles. This part of it is just outside of a rest area on west-bound I-40.
The weather in Colorado cleared up once we got further east and we were able to take a break from the road at one of our favorite rest areas. Sterling has a great rest area with a fenced in dog park and this recreation area across the street from it. It has a really nice trail around a pond. The girls loved it there, of course!
Every once in a while, I wonder if the whole electricity generation process is a scam, and that maybe the real source of our electricity is all the giant steel alien robots from the planet Pylon that we've enslaved and tied together all over the countryside. If they ever get free, we'd better watch out...
